Christmas is upon us!!

kitchengardener2 profile image

Just had an email from Boots (I get them because I have an advantage card). Wait for it .... Advent calendars on special offer, buy early!! In the words of Victor Meldrew .. I don't believe it. Been for a walk this afternoon and picked two bags of blackberries. Autumn is here early.Yesterday I made 8 jars of autumn chutney using tomatoes thinned out from the greenhouse, some green and ripened. Added apples, pears and a mango from the fruit bowl. Onions and raisins and cider vinegar. Courgette soup which was delicious and Courgette, lemon drizzle cake.

The food sounds delicious. You will probably get a January sale alert next.

You’ve been very industrious kitchengardener. Santa could do with you as a little helper! 😉

All sounds very delicious and healthy…we won’t count the lemon drizzle cake but I certainly could eat a slice at the moment 😋

Needs must! Courgettes fast becoming marrows. The cake is beautiful and it's got vegetables in it so not all bad. I cut them into slices and wrap two slices to a pack before freezing. Better than having to eat it all before it goes stale.

I never allow cake to go stale, it wouldn’t even make the cake tin let alone the freezer🤣

I must be psychic Peggy because I knew the mention of cake would have you on next! 😄

Ah Peggy and Newdawn, somethings don't change. I took my S-I-L out for a meal yesterday at a Marsden's pub, and on the bar a big display, order your table early, here is our Christmas menu. Oh No! that is ridiculous. Why did I think of Lindt chocs?

My mother always put the turkey 🦃 in on Christmas Eve on 1/4 gas.

kitchengardener2 in reply tomrsjsmith

My mum had a neighbour who complained that the turkey had a plastic taste. My mum asked if she had taken the little bag of giblets out, no ... she had put it in the oven just as it came from the supermarket .... well it said oven ready, even the outer plastic bag 🤣

Fruitful activities - just got a couple of demijohns (gallon fermenting bottles) with hopes to make a little wine or vinegar (I rather like a good vinegar)

Advent calendars??? Makes me glad I'm not a Walgreens Boots Alliance [US & international mega Corp] trading in UK as 'Boots Company PLC' customer too often.

They have the heft in the US to make a difference by providing meaningful/useful COVID testing data for improved surveillance and awareness.. but this recently stopped.

I'm currently with my imperfect but best human effort local pharmacy.

Christmas is not here yet, it's only August and we had a horrible fire in Hawaii and a horrible flood in Southern California. Thank God we've got a few more months before more rain.

So feel for you and pray that normal life will return soon. Take care.

Hi Susan, I thought I would drop you a line to say there is no way that the terrible situation being endured by you, and many others in this very troubled world is being forgotten. So much that causes sadness, worry and tears in all our lives.

That is why sometimes we just respond to a couple of silly messages and replies among our companions on this CLL journey who we have known for some years. Not for one minute is there any offence meant. Just a well needed little smile to brighten our less than happy days.

I hope that the terrible situations you mention soon improve, and the impact on your life is manageable.

Very best wishes

Absolutely agree Bubnojay!

I, for one, need a few smiles now and then, but that doesn’t stop us having others in our thoughts and prayers.

Fran 😉

11 jars made today, lots of rosehips in freezer for a repeat boiling later in the year.Delicious, used like honey and lovely on porridge in winter.

Jars of Rosehip, Lemon and Ginger Syrup.
