Red face / flushing. Possible rosacea

Hi I am 200 plus days post stem cell transplant. Since then I get flushed very easily. I have suffered with this in the past and still have it now but maybe worse I take a few medications still which may or may not help and wondered on any good way of controlling it my consultant has recommended me to try different moisturisers to find what works for me. Hope to hear of any suggestions on any good face washes or creams. Many thanks. Michael

I don't have any suggestions, sorry. I just wanted to wish you well and a cure following your stem cell transplant.

All the very best

Jackie

Hi Michael and also wanted to wish you well following your stem cell transplant.

As you’re in the U.K., I can recommend the Dermalex Rosacea Treatment creams from Boots. A relative uses Dermalex cream for rosacea and it really seems to help. Sometimes it’s trial and error until you find one that suits or the problem eases.

Best wishes,

Newdawn

Have you tried plain, expeller pressed/organic kukui nut oil? Hawaiians have used it for sunburn and other skin irritations. It's also called candlenut. I buy it in 4 oz bottles from Amazon. It's moderately pricey, so I mix it with plain coconut oil when I needed to put it all over my body. Coconut oil also is non irritating to skin. I put it on just after a shower or bath. My skin absorbs it pretty fast. If you just have a few spots on your face, it's won't be expensive to use it undiluted. I find plain oils of varying density help me more than proprietary stuff, when my skin is irritated it does Not like any stabilizers, preservatives, etc. This oil is not heavy/greasy, and absorbs easily.

There aren't clinical studies, but it's known to be rich in antioxidants. A number of websites dedicated to skin problems like psoriasis and rosacea recommend it. If you don't have nut allergies, it may help. Please do a patch test first, on a small area of thin skin like the inside of your elbow, if you decide to try it.

Do you have any idea about what might be triggering your rosacea? Once you have a suspicion about what might be triggering it, you can focus on eliminating the root cause of the problem. my.clevelandclinic.org/heal...

It's an inflammation. Investigate how to reduce systemic inflammation in your body and what triggers it.

Thank you Leopa. Thanks for the useful information. I will try to find what triggers it but on reading the list of what they might be I don't think that there is just one that stands out. Could be a commulation of a few! Will try and work out! Thanks michael

I am on watch and wait. I have had mild rosacea for years, for which I was prescribed various antibiotics. This cleared it for a sort period only, before returning.

I managed to consult a dermatologist who prescribed Soolantra 10mg/g cream, which is an Ivermectin based treatment. One course of that and no more rosacea or antibiotics. It may be worth mentioning it to your consultant.

Thanks g684. We'll done on controlling yours with soolantra cream. I will keep this in mind when I am at the hospital next. I am due to see a dermatologist also regarding something else and will mention about soolantra. It could be something to do with my immune system as I am immune suppressed. Best of luck to you with being on watch and wait. Michael

Hi I use Rozex cream/gel as prescribed from my doctor. Really helps my skin a lot. You only need a thin amount of it twice a day. I am in Wales so it's free but think you would pay if in England.

Kraskie, I got rosacea after I was diagnosed with CLL. I had never had any type of skin issue before. After several unsuccessful efforts at a remedy, I saw a doctor at Northwestern University who gave me a cream they were testing at the time, the principal component of which was ivermectin. It cured my rosacea quickly and completely. That cream is now sold as a prescription medication under the name "Solantra". I hope it can help you as well.
