Covid finally got me.

After three years of not getting Covid, it finally happened. My symptoms have been mild so far (low grade fever and feeling warm) and I just picked up some Paxlovid that I will be taking for the next 5 days. I was just 5 days short of finishing my Venetoclax and Obinituzamab treatment, but I am done with it now. My doctors office told me to stop taking the Venetoclax while taking the Paxlovid and that it wouldn't make sense to start it back up for 5 days. Hoping that is continues to be mild and uneventful.

Dexter, I too got Covid this year just after Christmas. I started Paxlovid the second day. By the fourth or fifth day, my mostly mild to moderate symptoms went away. After a week to ten days or so, I was completely back to normal and back out on the golf course.

I hope your course is mild too, I expect it will be.

Thank you for your post. I started feeling bad Thursday night, but then yesterday I felt fine. I started feeling fatigued this morning and the fever started. I took a couple of at home tests and they both came back positive. Hopefully it will be quick and mild.

My wife and I had the same experience. After 3 years of avoiding Covid we got it about six weeks ago. We both took Paxlovid and had mild cases. Mine was like a head cold while hers was more generalized. The worst part of the experience was the metallic taste in our mouths. The taste was horrible. Praying you have a mild case also.

I found that drinking water whenever that disturbing bitter taste came back helped a lot! Good luck! Feel better soon!

I had a mild case 6 months ago. I felt a bit fatigued and sweated on and off, though that could have been the hot weather. I was beginning to feel bad on the Sunday, tested positive on te Monday. Got Paxlovid on the Wednesday. I was over it within a week. I am still on W and W with, for CLL, relatively low lymph and WBC counts and not under treatment

A friend’s mom took paxlovid. She ended up rebounding a few days after her course of paxlovid finishef. She also continued to test positive on the rapid antigen tests for almost 3 weeks.

Our friend was denied paxlovid, despite age and health eligibility. She tested positive for 15 days, iirc.

They had covid 2 months ago, They both had a rough time of it, and still are not fully recovered.

There are cautions coming out to limit exertion/exercise for 2-3 months, and in some cases longer, out of concern for it possibly contributing to the development of long Covid.

I hope you have a better outcome than our friends’ experiences…

I'm sorry to hear that your friend was denied Paxlovid despite her age and health eligibility. For the benefit of others, I'll reiterate what I've written elsewhere recently as it's become better understood, even in the two months since your friends contracted Covid-19, that, when considering whether or not to prescribe Paxlovid, a patient's level of risk, not the severity of their symptoms, should be the guiding principle.

Thank you everyone for your experiences. I woke up this morning around 2:00am with that terrible taste in my mouth. I woke up about every hour after that with the same taste. It is gone for now and my fever is gone. Hopefully things keep getting better.

Hi Dexter - I had covid a couple of weeks ago. I had a sore throat and a 98.8 fever, called my hematologist and started paxlovid a couple of hours later. The symptoms went away following afternoon but I still tested positive for the next 2 days. Finally I got a faint red line instead of a bright one and was clear by day 5. I think that taking paxlovid right away might have made a difference. Also - I got rid of the awful taste in my mouth from the paxlovid by putting some toothpaste on my tongue. All best to everyone - covid is so scary for us immunocompromised people - we can survive it.

Thank you. I was feeling bad Thursday night and did what I usually do when I start feeling sick. Put a few extra blankets on the bed and put on a sweatshirt on before bed and tried to sweat it out of me not thinking it might be Covid. I woke up fine on Friday and made it through the day without any signs of an illness. When I woke up on Saturday I was fatigued and fell asleep on the couch for most of the morning. When I got up, I took my temp and had a fever so I called my oncologist's office and they put me on Paxlovid immediately. I have taken three of the doses so far and am feeling pretty good. I made it through yesterday with no fever and am just a little congested with a slight sore throat. Hopefully I am on the mend and can put this behind me quickly.

Sounds good. I’m still clear and hopefully you will be soon. It can happen. Now I’m wondering if I finally have antibodies from having the virus - my oncologist says there’s no way to tell because Evusheld is still in my system and it will generate a positive result no matter what. The saga continues.
