post allogeneic stem cell transplant I have been told I need to drink at least 2litres of water a day. With the medication I'm on I cannot drink plain water and have to flavour it and have with plenty of ice. Butstill find it difficult. Any advice on managing to get my full amount of water would be appreciated. Regards

Hi Michael, well done on getting through the tough bit post transplant!

I try to drink at least 3 litres a day and find it helps to allocate 1L in the morning, another in the afternoon and another in the evening. I use a 500ml glass and it's easy to remember I've had one and now just need drink another. I never drink plain water, I always have a flavour in it and often have sparkling water. I also include coffee in my fluids tally and generally have 3 or 4 each morning with one glass of water and the main lot water drinking is in the afternoon and evening.

It takes a lot of effort and monitoring to start with but ultimately, it becomes a habit and I can't imagine not doing it now.

All the best

Jackie

Thank you Jackie. I will try this as I usually have my drinks out of a half litre glass anyway so will now just use them only from now on.Just have to make sure I drink 5 to 6 each day!! Regards Michael

When I was still working, I would take one of those glass beer growler jugs into work with me, with the goal of finishing it before I left at the end of the day. Just seeing it on the desk reminded me to chip away at it. And at other times, I set hourly "water alarms" on my phone to remember to drink.

Hello Luzy. I like lemon tea and have now got some Berry mix teas which are nice thanks. Drinking 2 or 3 of these each day helps. Thankyou

If that ice is melting are you drinking more than you planned? Maybe if you refrigerate the water over night and skip the ice?

I drink ice water during the summer and the ice doesn't last long for me.

Each person has preferences that work best for them. Experiment and find your optimum. 5 glasses for me is: one when I start the day with my vitamins/meds. One with or before each meal and one with afternoon snack. Pretty easy and gets the bulk of it done early so I'm not up all night. I am a "guzzler"; I prefer a wider mouth glass ( never a bottle), and I have a favorite. I don't sip. I don't use ice because it is too "shocking" to my body and hard to drink fast. I guess I prefer "to get it over with". Do an "experiment" with all these variables, make a game of it until it's allllll "perfect". You will learn things about you and your experience....and meanwhile, you'll be getting your necessary intake.
