less water intake if you are on 200mgs of Venetoclax

I am on 200 mgs of venetoclax. I also have an enlarged prostate and was suggested to drink around 2 liters of water or less to help with helping with less urine. My question with being on 200 mgs. of venetoclax is this enough to drink daily.

Thanks,

The official website for Venclexta (venetoclax) venclexta.com/ states:

Drink plenty of water during treatment with VENCLEXTA to help reduce your risk of getting TLS. Drink 6 to 8 glasses (about 56 ounces total [1.7 litres]) of water each day, starting 2 days before your first dose, on the day of your first dose of VENCLEXTA, and each time your dose is increased.

Given drinking water is "to help reduce your risk of getting TLS." i.e. Tumor Lysis Syndrome, as your risk of TLS decreases, you should be able to cut back. How much you actually need to drink will also be influenced by other fluids consumption, health conditions, other medications you are taking, how active you are, the warmth and humidity of your surroundings, how much water there is in your food, etc. So it's probably a question best addressed to your doctor, but if your urine is a very pale yellow, further fluid consumption is only going to increase your frequency of toilet visits in my non-medically trained opinion.

Note: "Water is the best liquid you can drink to stay hydrated. But caffeinated drinks can help meet your daily fluid needs."

That tea and coffee are sufficiently diuretic to require additional water consumption is a myth.

Neil: Thanks for your input. Very much appreciated. I do check color of urine to know if I am drinking enough. Good point and will discuss with my Doctor at appointment I have next week. I am really grateful for this sit.

Myth or not, my N=1 experience said that coffee was a diuretic. I stopped drinking it and took up green tea instead. Now I'm not sure about tea, because I start the day with 1.5 liters of green tea (before midday). I do pee more. Is it the volume or the tea 🤔?

LeoPa, what I said was "That tea and coffee are sufficiently diuretic to require additional water consumption is a myth." What I'm trying to counter, is the still sometimes given advice, that if you drink a cup of tea or coffee, you also need to drink another glass of water to arguably counter the diuretic effect of the caffeinated beverage. For that to be the case, drinking a cup of coffee would have to result in you urinating two cups worth of urine.

As the Mayo Clinic article I referenced mayoclinic.org/healthy-life... states, with my emphasis, "As a chemical, caffeine increases production of urine, which means caffeine is a diuretic. But most research suggests that the fluid in caffeinated drinks balances the diuretic effect of typical caffeine levels. High doses of caffeine taken all at once may increase the amount of urine the body makes. This is more likely if you aren't used to caffeine."

Are you on week 4 of the ramp-up or is this a constant reduced dose?

Looking at your bio and other questions it seems you are on a reduced near the end of 2 years O+V for relapse.

If that's the case TLS is not a risk, so you can reduce the water intake. But you should drink enough to stay hydrated.

Skyshark: Have 3 months left to finish line. Have been on 200 mgs. for the last 5 months. Will make sure I drink enough to stay hydrated. Keep an eye on color of urine. Thanks so much for your input. It means a lot.

Hi. A related issue. Tomorrow I begin week 4 of my venetoclax ramp up and start a week of 200mg doses. The following week I start 400mg for the next 11 months. As a 77 year old I am anxious about the effects of the 400 mg dose and wonder whether a 200mg regime would be enough? So far the treatment which includes ibrutinib has been miraculous and apart from feeling a little sick at the start of each ramp up I feel good and lymph nodes almost gone. I should add that I am drinking 2.5 litres of water and non caffeine drinks daily. I just wonder whether 400mgs is needed? John

Coldplaybest: I think that is best answered by your Dr. I was on 400 mgs. for 1 year on my 2 year plan and it worked excellent. I was having some muscle and joint pain and was doing well so Dr. switched me to 300 mgs and then 200 mgs. I think it is based on individual cases. Wishing you the best with your treatment.
