Had Echocardigram

kitchengardener2 profile image

Well have been this morning for an Echocardigram in my ongoing pursuit to see if I can get to the bottom of whether I do/do not have an irregular heart rhythm. What a miserable individual the guy was, I was advised to take a chaperone with me but the chap didn't want my friend in the room. I didn't expect him to say what the Echocardigram showed up but all he would say was we'll send the results, good bye .'

I`m surprised there wasn`t a female escort or female doing the echo. I`d be very wary of a man doing an echo on me......yes I`m female......but then I`m getting on a bit now.

Hope the report shows what you want it to.

Take care

Yes I was surprised, I had been told that it could be a male radiographer and they invited me to take a chaperone. I have had so much going on just lately, I think that I have lost any fears plus if anything untoward happened, I would land out with my elbow!

I would of asked for a supervisor immediately & asked what was going on. We are the boss. . .we choose the places we go to, we choose the doctors we see. We can hire and we can fire. You are in charge. If someone told u to bring a chaperone then that is what should happen. Next time they say it's going to be a male, then say nope...I need a female. Was it performed at ur GP office or hospital? Make sure you speak to an office supervisor. No one should EVER treat a patient without dignity & respect.

I totally agree with GMa27.

The radiographer had absolutely NO right to refuse your chaperone. What he did is actually against the rules, and he could be disciplined, should you lodge a complaint.

You may feel that complaining may be too much bother, and I don't blame you; but please nxt time do insist on having a chaperone with you if it is a male radiographer.

Wishing you the results you are hoping for.

Take care, pigeon.

If I have to go again I shall refuse to be seen without my chaperone being there.

I had a stress test on a treadmill a few years back and it was a miserable experience. Someday someone will spearhead a new method for women.

All I can say is don’t expect a result too soon Alice, I had mine in April and have still not received a result from cardiology, I only know a little about my results through my haematologist who had them on his computer, but he couldn’t interpret everything as it’s not his field. On a different note I have just came out after another stay in hospital to have another stent fitted, and I haven’t yet been for my follow up appointment from my first in March. Like I say don’t expect a reply soon, Dave.x

Oh Dave that's awful. I hope you are feeling better. Are you still able to take Acalabrutinib?I have an appointment for 24 hour monitoring tape on 7th September so will ask then if there is anything on the computer. I am unsure if I am seeing the cardiologist on 7th/8th September or if it is just staff. Mr Misery yesterday just said that results would go to Dr Munro but we shall see.

Take care and rest when you need to Alice x

Yes Alice, I’m still on acalabrutinib, I didn’t have a heart attack this time just some angina symptoms and when they did angiogram said I needed another stent, so meds are the same, I have appointment with cardiologist in 10 days time, hopefully get some clarity then, hope you get sorted soon, Dave x

That is terrible,

I had one last year and was given the results at the end of the scan and I also confirmed and discussed soon afterwards with my GP.

Perhaps call your GP.

Oh Colette, Mr Misery just wanted rid of me. I kept trying to make conversation but he just ignored me. I will leave until end of next week and then ring GP but don't hold out much hope, they're pretty useless unless they are pushed. He said result would go to Dr Munro (my consultant hematologist) even though she didn't organise the referral. I still don't know who did but suspect A&E. Will let you know what the outcome is. I feel well, not overtired or lightheaded. Have just come out of the jungle that passes for a flowerbed. Oh my! eight weeks of inactivity after my accident really shows, finding plants, I thought I had lost. Take care Alice x

Alice that strange you didn’t know who organised the scan ? Didn’t your appointment letter say who requested it ?

No it just said that an appointment had been made. I knew nothing about it until Dr Munro mentioned it during my telephone consultation. I hadn't that point had a letter and so started chasing it with the cardiology department. I really think it was A&E but with Friday's man saying he would report to Dr Munro it all sounds strange but it's what I wanted so I am not bothered who requested it! Alice x

Sorry to hear you had an awful experience. You say the miserable man didn't want your chaperone in the room but didn't elaborate on the specifics. You certainly can push back on that, and ignore attempts to deny you the chaperone, but I wonder if this person was having a really "off" day. I have noticed more "off", "not usual" behavior lately, even in myself. And if you were hoping for the usual caring, warm response our healthcare providers generally do, and got brusque treatment instead, IMO it would color your perception of this person. I think healthcare, service staff, teachers, and anyone dealing with the public have more of this than other professions. It seems lately people are more reactive. Moving forward, I am going to try to see if the behavior on the other end is a "one off" or if it's something that really does need addressing. In case you ever need to repeat the test, and get this same person. Because while they could indeed be a miserable mean person, these days I think it's just as likely they could also be having a really bad day, and subsequently are acting abnormally and out of character.

You could be right but I was trying to keep calm and his attitude didn't help. The appointment was supposed to be 11.15 but we were there by 11.00. There is no one check in with in that department, instructions just say sit on red chairs! Perhaps sitting on a red chair triggers an alarm but he was out of the room the minute we sat down. Letter said appointment would take 30 minutes but I was in, out and home again by 11.35 (20 minute journey). Hopefully he will have got good pictures. We shall see. Most people in NHS are fine but the odd ones colour things badly. Never mind, as we say in Yorkshire, It'll be reet! To translate it will be ok.
