Morning,

Yes I heard yesterday via a booking site as did another friend and a third via NHS. They seem to be working through London Boroughs but two other fellow patients in a different Borough haven’t as yet heard.

I am not sure how much in the loop GP surgeries are. I called mine just to verify the booking site ( Eventbrite ) which was challenging for me to book through.

So did you have to register at the Eventbrite site first?

Yes and it was a nightmare for me as I am not very technical. Gave up on my mobile so used iPad in the end. My health authority have received a long complaining email. No contact phone number nor a post code given. I looked those up and ended up speaking to a pleasant woman who worked in the church hall and she was trying to help answer questions. 1st vaccine was so well organised via a hospital hub. 🙁

Boris announced yesterday that boosters would be starting next week for over 50s and certain other groups. Has to be 6months since last jab.

From the BBC news website:

“The advice is separate to the recent recommendation of third doses for people with severely weakened immune systems - something that is already being rolled out. “

“Already rolled out”?! Neither my Gp or haematologist have any information other than what the news is stating.

That's my take on the 3rd jab too sadly.. No one has any idea what I'm talking about

Is the 3rd dose for our category the same as the booster? Why is one called 3rd dose and everyone else over 50 called a booster? Are they just playing with words? Whatever, I really wish they would hurry up and contact us.

As I read the advice was we would get a 3rd jab considered to be part of the 1st cycle and then a booster after that... But whether that will come to fruition with a tory government, who knows

That’s what I thought, and I wondered if my husband (the CLL patient) would have to wait 6 months after 3rd jab to get booster - so I asked Blood Cancer UK what they thought. They said “people who get 3rd dose this autumn may get a booster 6 months later - but this hasn’t been confirmed”. So I’m still as confused!

Sounds like they don't know themselves as probably no one has had 4 doses yet

I am in south Manchester, patient at The Christie. I haven't had a letter, or a text or anything, I was at GP surgery yesterday, and they don't know when this booster will start. However, I have a flu jab booked for myself and my husband.

I haven’t heard anything, despite my GP telling me a couple of weeks ago that I would receive the Pfizer as a 3rd dose (had AZ for the double jab) and would hear very soon. My CLL nurse clinician told me on Monday to ‘keep my ear close to the ground’, as she wasn’t certain what was happening either. She did say the hospital, (where I’ve had one phone consult with my new CLL specialist), would send out info re: 3rd dose, via text to their eligible patients.

I moved to London this year and have never met my GP or CLL specialist because of the pandemic and shielding, which makes it more complicated.

A different nurse clinician just rang me now and confirmed that nobody knows what’s happening and I just have to wait. This was very reassuring... not!

The Practice Manager at the Surgery also rang me just now and basically said they were still waiting to find out what’s going on, though they did send a list of their eligible for 3rd shot patients to wherever and it’s a case of waiting for a text. This could take a few weeks apparently.

I did ask about the flu shot though and he booked my husband and me in for that tomorrow, so I did achieve something after the 6 or so phone calls... It’s so, so wearying, apart from the stress.

Because the Practice Manager said I fall into two categories for this ‘next shot’ ie., High Risk with CLL and over 50, I’m pretty sure with the confusion, shifting news and wording over the last two days, that ‘3rd dose/shot’ and ‘booster’ have morphed into one extra shot only.

Take care and be well

If its down to the gp to do referral I doubt I will get a referral sadly they think CLL isn't a 'real cancer'

Hello. No, we haven’t heard anything yet, but Paul ( the one with CLL) had the flu jab on Monday (and started Venetoclax on Tuesday) and I’m having my flu jab on Saturday. Our surgery is usually very on the ball, so I’m sure we will hear soon(ish 😉)

Stay safe,

Spoke to a nurse at my gp pratice this morning about 3rd dose/booster and she said that so far they have heard nothing about then they will receive doses of the jabs. I live in Greater Manchester In U.K.

As I can see 3rd vaccines are being organised by local health authorities. I have had a reply from my GP Federation to my complaint about my booking problems and reply was ‘We have used Eventbrite as the usual booking systems do not allow us to invite people for a 3rd vaccination in the same way’

It's difficult to work out what's going on when nobody in the media recently mentions the third dose, only the booster. But I've found what I think are the two relevant letters:

england.nhs.uk/coronavirus/...

england.nhs.uk/coronavirus/...

The second letter does contain a link to the first letter, so the third dose has not been superseded by the booster program. BUT my reading of it suggests this third dose will only be given to those who have had their second dose some eight weeks before, not six months before. In other words, none of us will be eligible. Tell me I'm wrong.

My GP said I might be jabbed early in October after six months had passed since second dose, but it all depends on the computer (which things have clearly taken over the world even without AI, doctors having willingly subjugated themselves to them). I don't think she knew how to distinguish between third jab being a booster and a primary dose.

So I wait ... and wait ... and will probably wait some more.

Totally befuddled by it all ! I am booked for Saturday to have vaccine number 3 ! My CNS is aware I am having it.

How did you go about booking yours? Did they contact you first or you found them?

I got a text from my boroughs GP practices and I saw a friend this evening who lives locally and she got the same text. So assume all CEV in the Borough got the same.

I asked for a pneumonia booster. We are meant to have them every 5 years. They wanted it in writing. The consultant is writing but the doçtors should know.My gps havent had the jab, pfizer, delivered yet.

Sorry you are not having much luck. Your GP sounds very ‘belt and braces’. It’s in the green book about pneumonia jab for immune compromised.

I will tell them that. Iv booked it again. I also booked shingrix for my husband. I checked again with the consultant that he cant have the live jab because of me. The nurse couldnt understand why and I said I was still confused. Is it to stop me getting chicken pox again! He should be protected. Anne uk

Anne,Live vaccines can shed. So be careful with any children that have vaccines

Yes, my daughter had my grandson vaccinated for chickenpox. She was told to keep him away from me for 2 weeks. I am wondering if they are having other jabs or nasal vaccines.I got my flu jab for the 15th.

Children’s flu is a nasal spray so I believe that is live as well.

Last year the children's nasal spray flu vaccine was certainly "live" but the injected version was "non-live" (similar to the adult flu injection which is "non-live"). Some CLL folk managed to get the "non-live jabs" for their kids, rather than the "live" nasal spray.

I assume kids' nasal sprays are still "live" this year, but it's worth checking, AnneHill .
