Captivate Trial MRD status

I've been part of the CAPTIVATE trial since 2018. My treatment ended in May 2019....Ibrutinib for 12 months and Venetoclax for 9.

I just received several test results including Flow Citometry and I am still MRD negative after 2 years. This trial was simply awesome and a life saver.

I was originally diagnosed in 2013, my bone marrow was at some point 85% compromised. I was treatment naive when starting the trial.

I will try that drug combination again if I ever relapse.

Thanks to Dr Kipps, the science, big Pharma and the wonderful staff at UCSD Moore Cancer Center.

You took them concurrently?

Yes. You start with Ibrutinib for 3 months and then they add Venetoclax.

Hi Hoffy. Long time no see. How are you doing as you were in the trial one year earlier than me?

Thanks , I am still UMRD after 3.25 years. I am doing well. So far so good! So lucky to be on the Captivate trial. I am glad you are doing well. Best wishes, Hoffy

Looking back, would you have done this as "early treatment" back in 2014, 15, 16? I am now 3 years in, no symptoms, white count 30,000, lymph nodes growing and spleen increased by 50%. I am considering being in an early treatment trial taking ibrutinib.

I'm not an oncologist but I would have done this as early as possible to ensure the maximum chance of success. "watch & wait" was good for the chemo era but I don't think it makes sense anymore. Your CLL is not going to disappear but get worse over time. Why wait for treatment when we have amazing 90% plus success rate drug combination today that is certainly more effective as the disease is treated early on.
