Does ibrutinab make you radioactive? How careful do you have to be around other people so they aren’t affected by the medication you are on?

Ibrutinib does not make you radioactive. A special version with a radioactive tracer was used during development to determine how the drug was eliminated and found that 80% of the drug metabolites is excreted in faeces.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatf...

Given the usual precautions with drugs and pregnancy, it's recommended to take precautions to avoid pregnancies while taking Ibrutinib.

Thank you! Is it alright to be around babies and children while using ibrutinib?

Let me guess. the pharmacy put it in one of those plastic bags with the 'Radiation symbol" on it. Mine does that also. they are not radioactive

When I first started Imbruvica it was in capsules and I recall there were all sorts of warnings about how you should handle the pills and packaging. It even advised men to pee sitting down so you wouldn’t splash any on yourself. I ignored most of that back then and don’t even know if those warnings still accompany the pill in blister pack we get these days? But if they do that might be the source of this question.

Hello 64lusso

Not surprised about the urination instructions. When I had B+R treatment the infusion hospital clinic had a sign that all patients were to flush toilet twice and same recommendation for home use. When I finished my second round of B+R in hospital, the nurses all wore full protective gear to keep from contacting any treatment fluids. On the other hand, none of the same hospital clinic nurses wore any protective gear.

I once had a man tell me that cannabis kills cancer cells. I said really, do you want to put something in your healthy body that kills cells?

Interesting, I had 6 rounds of B+R as well back in 2017 and other than rubber gloves I don’t recall the nurses using anything other protective equipment.

Hello 64lusso

Yes it seemed to depend on where I was in hospital group. Infusion center was just gloves, but hospital room was whole different story.

Mine come in a regular pill container. No warnings about handling them.

Interesting. Thanks!

LOL thanks for the bit of humor I will check myself when I find a Geiger counter. I have digital thermometer, blood pressure cuff and blood O2 monitor but first I heard about needing to check radiation levels. I did have a chest X-ray that was not cloudy so it can’t be too far above normal.
