Confused about antibody resting

I know there have been post. Confused about post vaccine testing. I cannot find spike testing in my area. Will qualitative serology igg antibody test, give any useful information post vaccination? Or is it just for post infection?

Does anyone know if and where spike testing is done in greater Los Angeles area?

Thank You

Both Quest & Labcorp are doing it.

Called Spike Protein Semi Quantative antibody test. CPT code 86769

I walked into my local Quest and asked. First employee said she never heard of it....she asked another co- worker and said, yes it's new, we do it. I have my appt on Tuesday.

When I go on the websites, only can order qualitative. Did you need MD order for the test? Which office is your test scheduled at. I called both lab corp and quest, not much help. Thank You

Went on quest web site, I’m not convinced of this being the spike test. Says nothing about spike or post vaccine, only post infection. After doing much research by calling labs, I find most don’t know about the various antibody test

The test will only say "post infection" because it's not approved for post-vaccination. Studies are being done in the UK. So in the US, few will comment "oh yes this is for post-vaccination". There isn't an approved post vaccination test yet.

Actually just found it but, cannot figure out how to order it

Yes I was told by Quest I needed script from my doc. My PCP gave it to me. I wrote out for doctor to copy the exact name & cpt code. Quest said to not click on covid antibody test online...to just click blood work. They go by the script and online is just to make appt. Will be interesting to see if this all works. So easily can be messed up. 🙏😜

I did find there are two different antipyretic with the same CPT code. The actual test code for spike appears to be 34499.

Yes but the cpt code is different and used for insurance. Need both

Hello GMa27

Do you need doctors script just to have insurance cover cost or can you get testing without doctor script with private pay?

Quest told me I needed the script.

Let me know how you do tomorrow. My primary care doctor reluctantly agreed to order it if I want. However when I asked for the opinion at Dana Farber I was told "I spoke with Dr. Davids recommends holding off on this test right now as we do not really know how to interpret the result. Hopefully once we have studied this issue in CLL patients we will have more information and at that point it might make sense to get it later down the line."

Getting it later confuses me...was told it must be done 2-3 weeks after. So if someone gets it done in 6 months, would it be the same results? No clue.

I won't have the results for several days. Hopefully my doc contacts me by Friday with results. 🙏

You'll probably see the results in the Quest portal first. The question is how to interpret them.

I didn't sign up for their portal. I have so many portals...just didn't want another one to add to the 40+ I have already. 😳

Like u said, I would not know how to interpret it anyway. It would frustrate me to have it and possibly misinterpret it.

You were told "test 2-3 weeks after", because this test is currently approved only for post infection. We really don't know just yet the optimum time to test for post vaccination. Studies are being done in the UK by Pfizer I think.

My doctor said it's to test for antibodies post vaccine. Nothing to do with infections. USA I guess is different?

We can test after any vaccine. Never knew I could test after flu or pneumonia shot.

Yes, the UK seems to be leading the world in testing for post Covid vaccination antibodies. As well as a study specifically in immune compromised people, the Octave trial as posted by lupiter:

healthunlocked.com/cllsuppo.... The US is still trying to get people jabbed. We have post antibody tests for other vaccines, but nothing approved for Covid post vaccination yet. I assume practitioners here are waiting to see the results of the trials in the UK.

My understanding is that the Lab Corp test is simply a yes or no on the presence of the spike protein. There is no amount of antibody given. No titer. So is a yes protective enough?and does no mean you have no immunity?IMHO this test just muddies the questions.

Labcorp and Quest is the same test. It is a semi Quantative which means it is % of antibodies not positive/negative test. The other Qualitative test is just negative or positive. Those words are similar but mean totally different.

Kind of strange, when you go on LabCorp website there is a sample result for quantitative spike test, but still just shows negative or positive. I am scheduled tomorrow at quest for semi quantitative spike antibody test number 34499. So we will see...
