I’m having 2 basal cells removed and will come off of calquence prior to procedure. I have been on the drug for 5 weeks with no side effects. Has anyone had new side effects upon restarting calquence?

I am making the assumption that the stop and start of Ibrutinib will be similar to Calquence.

Sorry to hear about you basal cell cancers. I too have been troubled by them and have had 6 removed so far from mr scald and face. My oncologist says to stay off Calquence for 3 days prior to the surgery then resume it the day after surgery. My dermatologist has suggested taking nicotinamide twice a day to prevent more basal cancers. It is up to 40 % effective in preventing skin cancers. It does seem to be somewhat protective. I order it from Amazon,. Am unable to find any stores in Chicago area that carry it. Biophix brand is available on line. Might want to check it out. T
Hi. I will be starting treatment soon. Is Calquence your frontline treatment? How did you decide which treatment path was right for you? We’re you offered Ibrutinib or Venetoclax/Obinituzimab combo as well as Calquence? Thank you for any insight you may offer.
Just started Calquence 3 weeks ago. I was on watch and wait for almost 7 years. Only reason, I was started was that my neutrophils were very low and am at a high risk for potential severe bacterial infections. Otherwise my CLL is symptom free.
First three weeks have been relatively symptom free. Just some fairly mild sinus headaches, mainly in the middle of the night or early in the morning. Surprisingly, a cup of coffee seems to make it go away. Otherwise, no other side-effects to date.
My oncologist chose this route over Ibrutinib because there are fewer and less severe reported side-effects. He is giving it 5-6 months to see whether to continue or to change to some other combination
Hope this helps and good luck!!
Thanks so much for the information. I hope it works well for you. What about cost? Would you share your info on that with me? Thanks !!!!
In addition, if cost is an issue, you might be able to qualify for a clinical trial since there are so many new meds and possible combinations. Available clinical trials in your country are usually listed on your country’s cancer society web site.
The oncologist guided me through my treatments. I started on ibrutnib but due to Side effects and not getting results as hoped I completed 5 treatments of bendamustine in combination with Rituxan. This was in 2017 and n 2020 I received 4 cycles of Rituxan. This did not give great results. I have been on calquence for 2 months and so far minimal side effects. My labs have been ok and I will be scanned in April. I hope your treatments work well for you you.
