Sounds like a symptom of reflux. Small unproductive cough. Can be worse at night, though timing of eating / triggers of reflux may vary that.. So, someone whose reflux is triggered by fruit juice or coffee might have a worse cough after having these in the morning..

Someone whose medicines mitigate the symptoms of reflux overnight, may have that cough through the day..

Hi Thank you so much for reply .

I was diasgnoised neally 3 years with grade 1 Osephagitis and lax hiatus . Am waiting on results of X-ray barium meal 3 weeks ago . Coughing is one of the symptons, I just wanted to reassure myself that is still the cause it . I do my best to avoid certain foods , which is hard as it means a lot. I am on 2 medications which helps a bit .

😊

A persistent unproductive and small cough was my main symptom through years of undiagnosed reflux.. [no ‘heart-burn’ symptom arose]My diagnosis was EoE (eosinophilic esophagitis - inflammatory condition) with main cause likely to have been egg allergy .. removing egg from diet worked quite well with me, that and a couple of dilation procedures.

One symptom was choking when swallowing.. my oesophageal sphincter was scarred and severely narrowed.

Foods.. yes, all manner of things as well as timing of eating..

fatty foods, spicy foods, alcohol, chocolate, onions, garlic, tea+coffee, ..long list.. no late meals too soon before going to bed.

Yes, my husband, on W/W 3 years. He produces so much mucus that his nose continually drips and he actually chokes several times a day from swallowing his own spit due to the build up of volume. I have been trying everything, giving antihistimes, nasal spray and so on but nothing seems to help him, it makes him miserable, it starts first thing in the morning and continues until he goes to bed. He has had both vaccinations now so I am urging him to go see his doctor yet again about this. He has had chest X-rays in the past also courses of anti bionics and antihistamines but nothing seems to work.

You could try a hepa air purifier- it may be dust particles in the indoor air causing this. Also anti dust mite bedding

I bought two about 3 weeks ago and I certainly benefit from them but it doesnt seem to have helped my hubby, also got humidifiers on the radiators.

Do you keep humidity 40-50 per cent? Do your air purifiers show a light if there is a problem with the air? Might be the bedding if it is first thing in morning. Alternatively Could wash bedding at 60 degrees to kill mites. Do you have a fabric headboard too? Is it a recent thing or all year around - alternatively could be a specific pollen issue

Air Purifiers have Hepa Filters and go red when filters need cleaning. All bedding is anti bacterial, duvet is silk, pillows same. It is all year round, continual, nothing so far has helped, tried antihistamines, alternating brands trying to find best for the job, sometimes so full on that hubby thinks he has a cold, copious use of tissues, even tried Lempsips to try and dry it up, nothing so far has worked. I send our bedding to the laundry.

I produce a lot of mucus if I eat a lot of cheese, or other dairy products with higher fat content - I don't have whole milk for example. I love cheese, and if I have it more than a couple of times a week my nose and sinuses just fill with mucous. And it drips down my throat as you describe. I use a product called Sterimar, a salt based nasal spray, which does help a little. And doesn't give me nose bleeds like the ones from the GP. My dad had a similar problem, and so does my daughter.

Hubby doesn't like cheese so of course never eats it.....

My wife's dry cough and clear runny nose started after her CAR-T infusion. I understand that this is a common CAR-T side effect.

Hello opal11uk

I have same problem, it did however get considerably better after I quite smoking. It used to take me 45 minutes in the morning to cough up the mucus so I could breath. I still have problem with post nasal drip almost 30 years later. I do how ever take antihistimes and Singular. Several years ago I read your body causes excess mucus to protect your esophagus from acid reflex. Does hubby have acid reflex, I do.

Thank you for your reply, my husband doesn't smoke so cant blame that lol

Ok. Not sure what you mean by anti bacterial. Not sure whether that is anti dust mite as not necessarily the same thing. The mattress also needs an anti dust mite cover. Some hepa purifiers have an indicator to show how high the particulate in the air is or you can get a monitor. It will be high air particulate that is an issue - something being inhaled

I take a tiny dose of soluble aspirin each morning as a blood thinner. It makes me cough as soon as I swallow it. No idea why - I am W&W too. I hope you are able to sort out your cough. Liz
