Dear all, does anyone know whether the imbruvica treatment for CLL allows for taking the covid vaccine? If yes, which one, Pfiser, Moderna, Oxford? Thank you

Imbruvca and covid vaccines
I'm on Imbruvica too. I have a telephone consultation booked in with my haematologist this afternoon Ivaylo, and I am planning to check this out. I'll post his answer here.

As far as I know, there isn’t any contraindications for any of them with ibrutinib or any medication. The only question is if the medicine will hinder the response from the vaccine and you get less than the 94% response.
I got the Moderna yesterday and am on ibrutinib therapy and my local hematologist nor my CLL expert in Texas hesitated in recommending it for me.

Hi my haemotologist has written to me and my GP to say I can have either vaccine. I am on ibrutinib too. Ann
I’m impressed Ann. My haematologist certainly hasn’t approached me or offered any advice over this period. I’d be astounded if he bothered to write to my GP or myself about the vaccine. I haven’t seen him personally since Feb!

Hi Newdawn I have only had telephone consultations since February too, and no letters. My last telephone consultation was last week, so I asked about vaccine. I was surprised to receive a letter confirming what he said about the vaccine therein. Can’t wait to receive it.
I am disappointed we are 4th in line. I will receive my vaccine at the same time as my husband who is 72 and fortunate enough to have no health problems. Good luck
Ann
My haematologist told me yesterday that I could have whatever vaccination for covid I was offered. His only caveat was that because of the CLL it would probably not be quite as effective as it would be for a non immuno compromised person, but added that was true of the flu jab too. So no reason at all to refuse it. Bring it on!
