I am taking Calquence for more than 3 months now and wanted to know if the vaccine have side effects to CLL patients. My oncologist advised me to get it next week but I am scared about it😒

Does anybody got the Covid vaccine while on Calquence?
Hi zitchie,-
Unfortunately there is scant data to answer your question, about side effects of the COVID vaccines and Calquence. There has not been any expert opinion/statements to indicate that there would be strong reasons to expect more than normal side effects from either drug.
-
The most people in the world that got a COVID Vaccine prior to this month were in blinded trials, so even they don't know if they actually got the vaccine or a placebo (saline water) shot. Most of the trials excluded immune compromised patients, so people with a CLL diagnosis were not permitted to join the trial.
-
A few later trials are currently recruiting immune compromised, but they have a placebo arm, and IMO it would be unwise to take the risk of placebo when approved vaccines are available.
-
We have had numerous CLL experts say that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are likely safe for CLL patients, since no live virus is involved. However the Astra Zeneca vaccine just approved in the UK does have a live vaccine from other primates, so it may or may not be risky for CLL patients.

I did Pfizer first dose, zero antibodies 21 days after.
I had zero side effects with both Pfizer vaccines, while being on Ibrutinib for nine months. Did not develop measurable antibodies by spike test 8 weeks post vaccine.
I’ve been on Calquence for 2 months and got my first Pfizer jab a week ago with no side effects.
