Happy but stressful Christmas

Happy to have seen all my grandchildren, but it had to be a quick outdoor gift exchange. With 9 grandkids and 5 great grandkids, “quick” was a stress. No one in my family masks unless a store requires it. That’s why I wanted “quick”. They didn’t even mask for my visit. Our church doesn’t require and my kids are active in youth groups. I stopped attending, watching it online. So now you see very clear, the stress and I must admit, some hurt. Here in the United States, there is such an attitude about “losing a freedom” if one should mask if not in a store. I tried to explain, now I lost the freedom to have nice sit down visits with them. My husband and I won’t push it beyond that. We’re waiting for a safer time to come for all of us. Don’t want another world scare like this ever.

Have a fabulous New Year. I will treasure even the smallest joy that rains on me. Phone calls, face time and letters are wonderful. Sandra

Sandra,

I share your feelings. My family is similar in their behavior sadly. I feel abandoned sometimes by their actions but with drugs and vaccines, we will get past this if we don’t let our guard down no matter how tempting.

I'm happy to say that my family ( without me ) had a good day yesterday.

For the first time in my 62 years, I didn't see my mum on Christmas day ...

Mrs ygtgo, my sons, nephews and brother etc ... all went to visit 'Gran'.

They stayed outside her house, armed with presents ( cleaned ) and had a great time, they even had a homemade brazier. .... the neighbours loved the idea.

As me old dad used to say, " It's the events that are different, that are the ones that you remember ... especially the one's that go 'wrong' "

Usually, I am the one who ' takes the lead ' ... which made it even better that I was not involved ... the next generation have picked up the baton.

I love your " I will treasure even the smallest joy that rains on me. "

Here's to a Happier New Year ...

So sorry to hear of your situation. The misunderstanding of the need for ALL to comply is so disheartening. I have required any who come to my door to have a mask. It isn't pleasant to have to do so and I understand the hurt you are experiencing. It is so difficult to understand how others can not be hearing and seeing the devastation of the virus.

Being alone, separate from our usual contacts for so long is wearing and with the differences in stances, it is life changing for us all.

While the generations always have had some differences, in this time with everything being on a fast track of change the ability to reason with each other is hampered. The digital world and all the "toys" and entertainment at hand is a divide of generations to my mind.

Stay safe! And I suppose our task is to love those who do not now understand -- they will grow into an understanding in time.

I saw no one for Christmas and remained self isolated as family is flying and moving around but with masks. Just not sure if they could have pre-dromal Covid. It was very hard, but no one will ever forget this year.😢😷

My brother and nephew visited us, my brother spent the day and bless them, both had done rapid Covid tests on the morning before visiting (thankfully negative). We still observed social distancing, they wore masks to come in, we took temps and had a window open above us for ventilation. It was still a lovely day and just so nice to spend time together at long last.

Missed the hugs though 😊

Now, that’s the way it is supposed to be. I’m very happy your family is respectful of you. Absolutely wonderful! Sandra

And let's not forget to wash our hands often. That was the first consistent rule and we hardly hear it anymore.marcyh
