Ozone disinfector & sanitizer ?

The users of C-PAP machines for sleep apnea are recommended to use ozone disinfectors-sanitizers for their masks and hoses. The mask and hose is put into a tank with an activated ozone generator. I now use it also for additional disinfection (after washing and drying ) of face masks for virus-protection, glasses and face shield. (My appliance costs $200, larger version double). I have no illusion about the level of protection, but wonder about the probable level of disinfection this achieves. The manual claims 99.99 % of germs and bacteria. There is no mention or claim about action on virus, but ozone disinfection has impact on virus: What is known ?

that's what I read too and it kills next to everything I believe. I have a uvb lamp which I use for disinfecting disposable masks and it generates loads of ozone too. so much radiation and ozone that a plant in the room almost died Before I noticed. So to be used in room with no plant and closed doors without people only. When I go in to switch it off the room smells like the forest after rain. I believe it kills all germs. Recommended to disinfect rooms with sick people. The person must leave the room first of course.

Use of UV light for disinfection is not well regulated for consumers in the U.S. UVB is safer, but not as effective as UVC in disinfecting:

Duration and intensity are everything:

very interesting, thanks. I saw pics where they use UVC for disinfecting buses in China after their shift. that's probably some industrial grade strong stuff. important thing is when these UVC lamps work they generate a lot of ozone too that helps to kill viruses and bacteria in places where the light does not directly shine. looks like a good idea to try out the air oven for disinfecting a mask. we'll see what 80 degrees Celsius does to it initially.

UVC's main mode of operation is that it can break chemical bonds, including DNA and RNA. So it can cause skin and eye cancers.

The sun produces copious amounts of all bands of UV. Much of it is filtered by the ozone layer.

The home products can be mislabeled and/or underpowered. Look for specific wavelength info and safety warnings. UVC can burn skin in seconds.

I still prefer Microban Professional spray, chlorine bleach, and hydrogen peroxide for sanitizing surfaces. I still use soap and water on my CPAP mask and hose.

I had to sanitize our refrigerator after we were without power for 4 days due to Hurricane Zeta. We emptied the fridge the day after losing power, and I used I used dilute chlorine bleach for the main cleaning. My wife finished up with a second cleaning once we got power back.

All the methods (light and ozone ) should be activated only in isolation such as a bathroom which is not used during the activation.

These cleaners have been somewhat controversial.

Ozone can be dangerous in the bedroom.

The CPAP manufacturers may not support the use of ozone (also called "activated oxygen"), as it degrades some types of rubber. Resmed will not fix or replace CPAPs damaged by ozone:

resmed.com/epn/en/consumer/...

The Lumin says:

"Lumin Bullet is universally compatible for use on most popular CPAP tubing brands. The Lumin Bullet, however, is not compatible with the ResMed ClimateLineAir™ Heated Tube for AirSense™ 10"

The filters on CPAPs are notoriously bad and overpriced. My pulmonologist recommended the use of inline filters on my tube:

I also use better quality input filters:

amazon.com/Packs-CPAP-Filte...

I have an AutoSense, so it will adjust for the additional air restriction. If you have a manual CPAP, please consult your pulmonologist when adding these types of filters.

Thank you! I am aware of the issue, but always interested to learn more. The cleaning with ozone is only for the detached hose and mask and tank which are put into a sealed container with the oxygen generator switched. This takes 35 minutes plus two hours for dissipation inside the sealed container. Even when opening the container inhaling should be avoided. I do it in the bath room with ventilator on and step out quickly. The even when before using the hose and mask, two minutes should pass before mask is put on the face. The CPAP machine and heater should not be put into the ozone container, nor should ozone expose the CPAP machine or the heater, nor should an ozone generator be connected to the machine.

A heated hose probably should not be put into the ozone container. I need cool air and use regular hose.
