Hi everyone: I was wondering if anyone has been told that taking Imbruvica resulted in osteoporosis. My oncologist has made this connection. I have been taking Imbruvica 420 for two years and now I am beginning Forteo injections. Many thanks. Be well. Ettie

Osteoporosis caused by Imbruvica
I had osteoporosis before my CLL dx. Didn't take Ibrutinb but had chemo. I did the Forteo shots 2011-13. It was wonderful and worked! Make sure you take a bisphosphonate or the Prolia shots after you stop Forteo. I didn't take anything for years after and then my dexa scan numbers were showing I had gone from osteopenia back to osteoporosis. Back on my Actonel pills. May try Forteo again.
Good luck! Hope it works for you! 💕
This is very interesting. I have been on Ibrutinib for 3 plus years and did have chemo as well years prior. Recently I had a bone density test and was kinda shocked to hear I was osteoporosis as I workout 6 days a week with weight bearing exercises. I’m going to look into this further.
Thank you for your reply. I had a PET CT last year which was okay and another just recently which revealed many fractures. I am still taking Imbruvica. Take good care.
There has been much research showing an increased risk of compressed fractures in People on long periods of watch and wait who have CLL.
Thank you so much for your reply. I will research this. Be well.
I have had three different treatments along with balloon khaplasty on 3 vertebrae, I was diagnosed with 11 compressed fracture vertebrae & severe osteoporosis of the the spine after 6 months of extreme pain, I had no accident or falls or any history indicating that at the age of 51 for this to happen. At the same time my haematologist said I needed to start treatment, I am on an uk clinical trial where I am being treated with ibrutinib. I am now being treated Forteo. I was on watch and wait for 9 years before the fractures. At the time of starting treatment 4 years ago I was found to be vitamin D deficient.
