Anyone gone through the flu with CLL? Any tips?

The severe bone pain and weakness but no pneumonia. Diagnosed Influenza A Positive yesterday.

I have had CLL since 2013, W/W and was Michael keating’s patient.

Thanks

Hi JC

I have not had that exact issue but apparently my Grandsons our biological weapons for me compared to adults

And I have gotten Gotten ill several times if I do not visit them with caution

The most epic was when one got the kawasaki virus which was treated quickly and he suffered no ill effects

While I also came out fine it was a pretty horrible month and in general if I get sick it seems to take a month to fully recover

I have just had no choice but to alter my lifestyle to avoid getting sick as much as possible and have been pretty successful at it

Thank you for your response. I will be more careful when I know someone is ill, I had gotten too confident, but this came unawares.

May you have less infections.

Yes, which led to double pneumonia, multiple organ failure, septic shock, severe ARDS & a two month coma.

When I woke up I was told I had CLL.

I had no idea that I was that ill.

Get an oximetre & thermometer- if your figures go sideways - go to hospital. That’s what I plan to do next time.

Thank you, what an ordeal you had. I have run fever—thanks for the tips. And trust you stay well.

I've had flu A a couple of times and both times had Tamiflu.

If you have only had it a day or so then a course of Tamiflu can shorten the duration that you feel ill and reduce possible complications like pneumonia.

Jackie, glad that helped you. I had missed that 24-48 hour window.. I was five days in. How awful to have this more than once. Perhaps my age, 76, but this has really wiped me out.

Thank you.

Yes, it's pretty awful, isn't it. The flu jabs don't seem to help me to avoid flu although I have them every year.

I've also had parainfluenza and that was bad enough! Another course of Tamiflu!

My Dr had given me a spare course so that I can start it as soon as those horrible symptoms start. He's a good man :)

I hope you stay flu free from now on, get the flu jab!

Rest and plenty of fluids. Aspirin is great for reducing both the fever and the aches if you can take it. Pamper yourself and if you know someone who can make it, some homemade chicken soup does wonders.

When I started imbruvica 3 days later I was in the hospital with pneumonia. I had the bone pain in the bottom of both legs. The legs were like that for most of the time I was on watch and wait which was about five years. So for whatever reason the bone pain in the legs seems to be gone. White count and absolute lymphocytes head gone up bye 200000 with pneumonia. Since the hospital cured of pneumonia the white count has gone down the last two blood tests. But still a long way from anywhere near normal.

Oh my. Before I was diagnosed with the flu I was going to request a bone marrow biopsy since it has been six years. No need now. It was a terrible pain—for an old gal🙃

I had the bone marrow biopsy way back in the beginning on the first week of starting watching weight. There are those who say that's not necessary with blood tests and CT scans etc.

I had Influenza A H1N1 and was hospitalized for 12 days. It took me more than 3 months before I began to resume my regular activities.

It is shocking how this just wiped us out. My muscles are very week and this is my first day to feel it won’t last forever. So sorry you were hospitalized. Take care through this season.

10 years ago I had flu followed by "pneumonia" in both lungs. 42 days in a coma in intensive care. When I finally came round I was completely paralysed as all my muscles had wasted away.

Since then I've suffered with pneumonia repeatedly, and been hospitalised repeatedly.

Now I live abroad in a milder climate but have all my jabs each winter, and IVIG on a monthly basis. I only mix normally with others in the summer. Damp, germs and me do not mix. Paracetamol is a useful médecine cupboard helper to reduce fever.

I can see how the 1918 Flu epidemic devastated families. So sorry you were hit so hard by the symptoms.

I am shocked at the muscle loss of strength through this.

Thank you for your feedback.
