I have read that turmeric is a good supplement for CLL patients. Any indications on how much we should be taking please?

Hi Clovelly,

I wanted to start turmeric to help me with CLL also and went to a naturopath and she said it would help me immensely. I asked my haemotologist but she said it was too dangerous for me and that it could lead to bleeding (I’m on ibrutinib).

Before you start anything new regarding supplements etc. please get advice from your haemotologist or health professional. I take all my supplements now by eating them - fresh fruit and vegetables and nothing else.

Take care and good health to you.

Kind regards Josephine.

I so agree....I wanted to take turmeric too for its anti-inflammatory properties and to possibly help with my hip and leg pain from spinal stenosis, along with my CLL. However turmeric is also a natural blood thinner, so even if you are not currently on any treatment for CLL like Ibrutinib, but you have cardiac issues that you are currently taking medication for, like Aspirin, Plavix/Clopidogrel, or certainly any of the other stronger blood thinners, please ask your physician first before taking turmeric.

Hi, I take Tumeric every day as it has really helped me with irritable bowel syndrome. I am very much hoping that I will be able to continue taking it once I start treatment. One of the side effects of Venetoclax is diarrhea, so I am really really hoping I’ll still be able to take the Tumeric. It has helped me reduce the IBS symptoms by about 90% which is a pretty big deal in my life. On the other hand, I have no idea if it helped slow down my CLL symptoms as they have come on a little bit faster than I expected given my ”good” markers. But then, Maybe it would have been faster, without the Tumeric.

My Emory CLL Specialist (Dr. Tadepalli, formerly MD Anderson Huntsville) actually recommended Tumeric for me. I finished B/R treatment last August. I'm 80. He knew I also take a baby aspirin and magnesium daily. My only marker is 13Q and I'm not overweight.
