They have me take one Tylenol and 2 Benadryl as soo as I get home following my monthly IVIG. They would like me to take it before infusion but I have a way to travel and I drive myself and in traffic so I told them I didn’t feel comfortable.

Panz, ask if you could take Claritin instead of the Benadryl. I started reacting to Benadryl and was switched to Claritin. Works for me.

I was also switched to Claritin for my last IVIG because my wife couldn't drive me. Now if I could only get them to agree to no steroids. Oh well...

17 years of IVIG for me and I’ve never gotten steroids. I was surprised, when I discovered on line groups, to see people posting about them being included in their pre meds. Some also get IV Benedryl, instead of tablets. I wonder how much that has to do with some people’s complaints about needing a day or two to recover from their infusions.

I did talk them down from 2 steroid tablets to one. Two of them kept me wired all week. One does that for about two days. I get my treatment at a military hospital so that may be why they are particular about what meds they give.

I am on Ibrutinib and also take Tylenol just before IVIG.

Yes. It's preferred over Advil or any ibuprofin product. I was given Tylenol with my obinutuzumab infusions while on ibrutinib.

Thanks for this. I also had tylenol when getting obin. But now only on Ibrutinib. Will ask at hospital today at my pre scheduled appt. Probably safe if bp is not too high.

Over 38c you should see your doctor or get to an ER! Do not take any fever reducers until you have been assessed. Doctors will want to see all of your symptoms, not have them masked. Let us know what the doctors have to say. Tooth infections can lead to all kinds of problems if not addressed in a timely manner.

Believe or not going to ER here in Toronto is dangerous. They can make you wait 12 hours sitting in a chair. I have just stayed in bed and am going to usual monthly appointment today I have been on Ibrutibib 1 month. Temperature is 37 this AM. Tooth problem stays on back burner when I am careful. I am not sure how it can be solved as root canal would involve bleeding and antibiotics and or pain killers. And the costs are astronomical. No dental insurance in Canada for single person. Tomorrow am going g to work. I hope.

There is an association between dental issues and pneumonia so something needs to be done to fix this issues. Maybe simply an extraction? I have a hole that I got used to quite quickly....

But also if you have a temp over 38 they want to check you for possible sepsis. If you tel them you are immune compromised due to blood cancer and are on a form of specific chemotherapy (the ibrutinib) and are worried you have neutropenic sepsis they should move quickly to isolate and assess you urgently as sepsis is every bit as urgent as an MI potentially. Do you have a nurse helpline you can call so you’d be expected?

Here at UCLH they have had blood out of me going to the lab within two minutes of me arriving with a temperature shortly after chemo.

It’s easy to forget that all the fancy newer drugs can also cause neutropenia too.

I stayed in bed all day. Next AM te.perature was normal I do have a dental issue and will check it out. I know o e has to be very careful with tooth infections. When it flares up even a little I try to not disturb tooth or stress body until it goes away. Just starting month 2 of ibrut so want to wait until white cellb count in blood goes down since glands shrunk in first week the bad cells are now in blood stream and will eventually become waste product and be flushed out.

I thought a kidney infection was being sufficiently addressed with antibiotics when I was newly diagnosed. I ended up in the ER septic, literally at deaths door. Any infection can turn from low key to sepsis in hours. We can’t think in terms of simply controlling an infection, especially if we are in treatment and if your doctor suggests that a chronic infection can be dealt with that way, you need a new doctor. My experience made me rethink things. Why was I putting myself through treatment for my CLL in an effort to stay alive, but trying to put aside dealing with what I saw as less serious health issues, which also put me at serious risk because they were inconvenient?

I am not familiar in the differences between the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in the US and Canada. I would call and ask whether they have a financial assistance program and / or financial advisors in Canada.
