Is La Croix grapefruit essenced water safe with Ibrutinib?

We found this grapefruit “essenced” beverage on sale and bought it. The ingredients list says it is 100% water that has been essenced with fruit flavors. The company website information is rather vague.

If it were me being on Imbruvica 420 I wouldn’t chance it....it just wouldn’t be worth it. I equate that to fruit cake at holiday time...ingredients are just too vague about just what kind of fruit is used. So I have gives up Clayton Light Fruitcake and all marmalade’s ......don’t want to chance it! This is just my opinion. The past holiday season I gave away all fruitcake and stollen.

If the drink is 100% water, there can't be any essence. There's probably not much essence, but given the vagueness of the website, you may be best off not drinking it.

Grapefruit is the typical culprit that is on label warnings, however it's definitely not the only problem fruit. The drug-interaction stems from naturally occuring compounds (such as the family of compounds called furanocoumarins present in grapefruit) which interact with metabolizing enzymes, either by subduing the effect of the drug (and dampening the desired effect), or by compounding the metabolizing speed (and basically causing an overdose). Ultimately, the interaction is dependent on the medicine in question.

It may be a faux pas to link wikipedia, but...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grape...

I'm not a medical professional (nor do I represent the interests of any food company), however I wouldn't worry about the trace levels of drug interacting compounds that may be present in naturally essenced sparkling water drinks.

Dosage is directly proportional to toxicity. Second, it's beneficial to have a good water intake! In my eyes, the pros of enjoying a La Croix outweigh the (potential, unproven) cons.

Edit: However, if you BELIEVE that anything in it is harming you, and causes you worry... then don't drink it. A nocebo effect could work to harm you... Leading to my final unsolicited and anonymous advice: Cultivate a positive attitude towards your diet! It will be OK! :)

And come summertime I’m a big grapefruit guy! Not this summer and maybe many more! I’ll gladly take health over grapefruit! Good luck!

Why take the chance? You are on a targeted therapy that say NO I wouldn’t even have it in the house and I don’t!

There are so many other lovely sparkling waters and flavors....I would avoid the blood orange and grapefruit ones....
