I started taking 420 mg Imbruvica in December. After about two weeks of many side effects, I felt fine. Then these past few days I’ve had pain swallowing and very painful tongue sores. Gargling with baking soda in hot water and putting Orajel on my tongue work but are only temporary fixes. I just emailed this to my oncologist but thought I’d also ask others taking this drug. Also, we are going on a cruise in two weeks and I really hope these side effects are gone by then. Thanks.

Pain swallowing and tongue sores
There is a mouth wash, I think its called magic something ? for chemo patients. It is by rx. I am on my 8th day of IB. I requested it from my doctor to be prepared, he wouldn't give it to me saying it rarely happened with IB. Well you debunked him.
Sorry you having discomfort. Hope it goes away and you get relief.
Hi Matt, I think this is a common problem with ibrutinib, I certainly suffered with the same thing, only thing that really helped was warm salt water rinsing/gargling, prescription mouthwash didn't seem to have much effect, hope it clears up enough that you can enjoy your cruise, God bless, Terry
I’ve had the tongue and mouth sores most of the time I’ve been on it. Have recently got a bit better. The magic mouth wash has Benadryl in it. I got a reaction to that so was given lidocaine mouth wash. It helps for a bit. Hope it lets up for you. You could also try baking soda and salt together The combo seemed to help.
The cruise will be the best medicine for you👍🏼
My oncologist is prescribing a mouthwash called dexamethasone; hope that works.
Matt, I had this in the early days of Ibrutinib treatment. My dentist suggested a mouthwash called Gengigel which has hyaluronic acid in it which promotes healing. It's very soothing and worked well for me.
Not sure if it's available where you are but more about it here: oralscience.com/en/products...

I’m off to buy some of that today Jackie on your recommendation.
Seems to be a common problem with Ibrutinib Matt. My gums are quite sore.
