Curcumin and Ibrutinib

On the advice of my naturopath I was taking Curcumin as a supplement while also taking Ibrutinib .

After reading on this board about the possible interactions of these I stopped taking Curcumin.

Are any of you currently taking it?

This is a quote from an article on Sciencedirect.

It prevents the progression of the disease, decreases CLL B-cell counts, and also when administered together with conventional anti-cancer drugs, has synergistic actions in addition to lowering their dose and side effects.

Hi Steve,

Your quote probably relates to CLL generally and doesn't factor in the interaction with BTK treatments like Ibrutinib which are not conventional anti cancer drugs (I suspect chemo is meant here). This is a quote from a CLL Society article on ibrutinib interactions;

‘Some common medications to avoid without provider approval are, aspirin or Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory agents such as ibuprofen, naproxen, or diclofenac; and anti-platelet agents. In addition several herbal products can enhance the anti-coagulant properties of ibrutinib including Omega-3 Fatty Acids (Fish-Oil), Flaxseed Oil, Vitamin E, and Curcumin/Tumeric.’

Frankly this isn’t an issue I’d be trusting to a naturopath.

Best wishes,

I think Curcumin and ECGC are effective on their own but may not be compatible with IB.

No more Curcumin for me thanks

Thanks Steve

I always ask my specialist before taking anything as many things interact.

Stay safe and well

Bingo.

Glad you decided to drop the curcumin use. Don't want you to bleed to death!

I stopped taking it when I started Ibrutinib because of the drug interaction list.
