At long last my final cycle of FCR has been completed, and looking back on the last six months it has been a pretty eventful journey, but I will say to all of you that are about to begin FCR treatment and those already mid treatment I do believe it has been a journey worth taking. The low points passing out and falling down the stairs, the nausea, tiredness and the sheer mental struggle to swallow tablets that you know are going to make you feel awful, please note we are all different and you may not get any side effects. The end result for me is I feel better and my blood and platelet results are excellent, just the bone marrow biopsy to go now in April. I broke my treatment down into rough days and good days I knew after the first two cycles that I was going to feel rough for about 6 days and out of those 6 only 2 would be the worst so I told myself that I only had 8 days left of feeling really rough ( the 4 cycles to go) and it didn’t seem too bad, well it worked for me and I also convinced myself that after having chemo on a Friday the following Friday I would be feeling well enough to have a beer. Just little goals to spur myself along. Now I know some of you will suffer more, stays in hospital etc and many will suffer less, I wish you all the very best, I know it’s retched at times but stay strong, I wish you all positive outcomes , and stick with the journey the end of FCR comes quicker than you think.

Hi dandelup
Congratulations on finishing your FCR. I’m glad you did have a reasonable time with and and wish you a very long remission.
I’m in watch and wait and reading your post did help.
Enjoy your beers.
Hi dandelup
So glad for your end of chemo news.
... "Just little goals to spur myself along" and ... "convinced myself that after having chemo on a Friday the following Friday I would be feeling well enough to have a beer."
I live in a pain management regime, have done since 1990, you describe my coping methods to a T.
As for the beer ... today I will be watching the Rugby on tv drinking Bavaria 0.0% beer and Whissin (whisky - ish flavour) both drowned in lemonade ....
... oh well
Thanks again .. you've made my morning with your good news.
little goals = little victories

Well done.
I had blips like yours and hated those pills after 3 cycles.
But the worst is over but your care is not. First 6 months are vital for health vigilance. Bloods will take a while to improve and your immunity is very low.
Good diet balance but eat what you enjoy and some form of exercise each day. I loved to walk the same route and noticed when I climbed hills more easily and got home quicker. I was becoming normal again.
Time to enjoy life again.
Best wishes.
Great work and thanks for sharing how you cope!
Congratulations - may your remission be a long one.
I did 3 cycles of FCR and reached remission. I had no major problems. Everyone is different but most think the worst of chemo. For me it was a scary but easy journey. I kept thinking, tomorrow it will get worse, and it didn't! So I was scared for nothing.
Hopefully you reached remission too!!

Great news! Well done. I am 3 mths out of FCR. I feel great!
Bloods still a bit wobbly... it's very important to remember it takes up to 12 months to recover your immunity. Continue to take care.
Today I wake up with my first cold symptoms in 3.5yrs...
Together we are stronger.

I had fcr in 2010 and had the same side effects as you but not faintness. Im glad I had it. I had 5 years remission and another 3 years not treated. I have got fatigue now but since fcr I have travelled and felt great. Anne
