Hi everyone. I have bought some Tea bags that you infuse in cold water. One of the ingredients is natural blood orange flavouring. Do you think these are ok to have when I’m on Ibrutinib? I’d only be using the maximum of two per day and not near the time I take my Ibrutinib at 10.30pm.
Thank you.
Cindy.

I squeeze a blood orange and a naval orange almost daily. Had to stop adding grapefruit once I started on ibrutinib. I asked my docs about the blood orange and they said it's OK.
Thanks for asking this question. I love Blood Orange Sorbet, and since I am lactose averse, it is one of the few frozen treats I can eat. I had been avoiding it because I was not sure! I will eat some tonight!
Cllcanada - Chris, what is it in Grapefruit and Seville Oranges that makes them an issue with so many drugs? Every time I come across a question related to Citrus fruit I do a little more digging, as my grandfather and uncles were Citrus farmers. The family trees for all of the varieties is very convoluted.
I have a tree here that was developed by my great uncle - he did a lot of work with experimental cross breeds. There is someone here who I have met, who is the expert when it comes to Citrus varieties. I plan to connect with him to see what I can find out about this tree.
I want to pick his brain about Grapefruit, Seville Oranges, and what they were developed from, as well as what was developed from them, also. I need the Chaya or Susan LeClair of Citrus - someone who can make the complex understandable.
Something called furanocoumarins. They effect an enzyme... CYP3A4
Imbruvica (ibrutinib) and many other drugs.. my anti fungal for example use this to break down the drug.. and get it in the blood stream. Inhibiting this enzyme with grapefruit, allows large quantities of a drug to enter the blood stream and is potentially dangerous... There are also other substances , like St John's Wort, that promote the enzyme CYP3A4 and basically stop the drug from being used... so its a two way street.
Thanks! I'm off of everything that had no grapefruit labels for the first time in over 20 years. It was killing me to look at my beautiful tree and only be able to give the fruit away.
