What results am I looking for from my bone marrow biopsy?

I just had a bone marrow biopsy. I will get the results in 3 weeks. What information will this provide and what am I hoping to hear?

This depends on what the BMB is for, but you will likely get a confirmation that you have CLL, if they run a flow cytometry, they might do a genetic FISH test, to show your markers, and likely they will provide an indication as a percentage, of how much CLL has impacted your bone marrow... obviously, the lower the percentage the better.

Other than that there are some special tests, but the main ones are covered above. If this is post treatment BMB, they may do a test to establish how effective treatnent has been for you... the test coubts malignant B cells and is called MRD, minimal residual disease... less than 1 in 10,000 leukocytes is the goal... MRD negative...generally the deepest treatment response...
