Just a reminder that you will not see private Posts and Questions in the 'Last activity' and 'News feed' pages. To find these, you need to click on the Questions and Posts menu items in the purple menu bar.
You may never know of members only submissions if you haven't opted to receive notifications from at least some of the below:
Communities
Email me when a someone creates a post in my communities
Email me when a someone asks a question in my communities
Email me a daily summary of what's new in my communities
Email me a weekly summary of what's new in my communities
Might be a good time to check your notification settings?
Amedeo from HU recently advised why we weren't seeing these private posts and questions as follows:
"We investigated this and this is actually ‘normal behavior’. Basically any post that is private is not included in the newsfeeds. It was a necessary action as part of the improvements to the newsfeeds as well as those to search & privacy (locks) because all are interconnected.
In the interest of privacy, any community member can receive the email notification (if they opt-in) but we will not display the private posts in the newsfeeds. But this is only temporary as we understand that from a user perspective it can impact how many members see the post/question and thus how many answers are submitted. Once we are able to separate the newsfeed from search and the locks they will reappear in the newsfeed."
In other words, you'll need to manually check Posts and Questions for private submissions until HU have reworked the privacy indicator so that it appears next to the item when you are reading it. I expect that won't happen until early next year.
To recap on how the privacy settings work for questions, posts and their associated replies:
If you don't mind your post/question and any replies being found via an Internet search, under 'Who can view this post?' accept the default setting of 'Everyone' when submitting your item. To restrict your submission to members of this CLLSupport community, select 'Members of this community only'.
Polls and their associated replies cannot be made private.
