How long it is safe to use prednisone for children of 6 month weighing 3.6 kg

My son undergone surgery for biliary atresia . After surgery his direct bilirubin reached up to 3 but then fluctuated back to 6.5 . My doctor has prescribed him omnacortil 5 mg / 5 ml syrup from last 2 month maximum dose being 7 ml per day and reducing slowly at ten days interval .

How long prednisone can be given without any side effect ? What might happen when it will be stopped ? Please help .

My son’s numbers were all over the place for a year or so as they leveled off. (Felt like forever) We did a few rounds of steroids at different times. The only side affect I may have noticed is he was slightly more irritable (but also teething). The medicine was never stopped cold either it was a nice long slow taper. Sometimes bringing down inflation was all he needed. I was nervous to about side affects but the reality was it still way better than a high billi. It sounds like you and your doctor have a great plan, best wishes ❤️

Thanks . Some times I am very worried due to thinking of side effects .but now I feel little relaxed . thanks for your kind response .
