I had a heart attack in 2005 at the age of 54. Stent in right coronary artery, put on simvastatin 40mg, bisopolol 2.5mg and aspirin. Very good lipid profile for several years. After 10 years on the simvastatin I was changed to Atorvastatin 30mg.
Over the last few years I have been trying to reduce the atorvastatin dosage. I was moved from 30mg to 40mg and soon after started to experience more apparent side effects, particularly in the knees. At that time I added daily 3x200mg of coenzyme Q10 and 3x800mg of plant sterols as part of trying to reduce the dose and achieve good cholesterol results. I consider my diet reasonable and exercise levels very good. Of course there is always room for improvement and I could lose a little weight!!
I have to say that to date I am a tad disappointed with the results of my efforts to reduce the atorvastatin dose in terms of recent blood test results for cholesterol.
I have for some time been taking daily 1500 mg of glucosamine sulphate sometimes together 1200mg chondroitin sulphate, initially for back pain and more recently my knees.
I have picked up from the internet that whilst there appears to be no medical/scientific basis for glucosamine to impact on cholesterol blood test results some people have reported otherwise.
I would therefore be very interested to hear if anyone has knowledge or personal experience of any impact glucosamine/chondroitin may have on cholesterol.
Many thanks.

I had a triple bypass in 2015. I stopped taking all prescription medications by October 2016, thanks to dietary and lifestyle modifications, plus vitamin supplements.
My lipid and other blood biomarkers are at or near optimal values. My HDL (good cholesterol) is actually above my LDL (bad cholesterol) now.
If you want to know how I did it, click the link below to my posts and find the ones that appeal to you.
I have read extensively on Coronary Artery Disease and 'glucosamine' never came up. That supplement is for joint pain. It will not relieve joint pain caused by statins. Statins are poisonous to the human body, they damage your muscles and joints and should be avoided. I had extensive shoulder pain when I was on statins, that's what motivated me to make the dietary and lifestyle changes.
Drugs are band aid solutions to cover up poor dietary and lifestyle choices. Take responsibility for your choices and make changes, as I did, to achieve optimal health.
Walk daily for 30-60 minutes.
Eliminate all sugars from your diet. Eliminate all simple carbohydrates from your diet - white flour products (white bread, white pasta, white pizza dough); white rice, white potatoes. Avoid fruit juices, soft drinks and limit alcohol to a glass of red wine 3-5 days per week. Enjoy water or sparkling water as a beverage.
Eliminate fried foods and cold cuts. Reduce red meat consumption to once every 2 weeks, this includes pork and veal.
Increase your consumption of fruits, vegetables and legumes (beans, lentils, chick peas). Enjoy walnuts, almonds and seeds in small amounts daily.
Consume 2 servings of fish per week, ideally cold water fish like salmon, trout or Arctic Char.
How interesting! I’m on a boatload of meds’ due to peripheral arterial disease, Fibromyalgia, postural hypertension ! The list is endless! No cures just here you go another tablet to take! So I may give this a go. Only problem I have is the vit c as I’m allergic to citrus 🍊 in particular orange! It cripples my tummy! Anything that contains it sets it off! I love the smell of fresh orange juice mm but can’t drink it 😩😩
It is unlikely the vitamin C that is triggering your allergic reaction it is likely the citrus fruit. Getting optimal dosages of vitamin C through diet is very difficult.
I use this product which bypasses the stomach and goes right to the intestines:
Ah now then that’s another strange allergy. So I could be allergic to vit c then. How did they test you for that? Bet that took some narrowing down. Poor you
I am 72, I had allergy for 35 years, I buy Zirtek Allergy Relief, one a day buy from the Internet, not available via NHS.
Food diary is the key.
I am allergic to Jaffa cakes! I can eat bananas without any problems. I have to watch when carrots and parsnips are cleaned. Raw veg is also a problem, all veg has to be cooked. Many more.
