I'm new here, just got a print out of my blood test results for Thyroid and they also did a Cholesterol tests.

I have an underatcive Thyroid and this was my checkup so asked for the blood results to be printed (thanks to the Thyroid community here). I see they also did Serum lipid level tests and I'm a little concerned on the results although my Doctor did not mention them. I am hoping this is related as since being on Levothyroxine I have started to loose weight. My results are - with comments...

Serum total cholesterol level = 4.8 mmol/L (< 5.0) - Risks increase with cholesterol above 4 mmol/L and/or above 2 mmol/L.

Serum HDL cholesterol level = 0.9 mmol/L (> 1.0) - Below range

Serum cholesterol/HDL ratio = 5.3

Triglyceride level = 1.9 mmol/L (<2.0)

Serum non high density lipoprotein cholesterol level = 3.9 (0.0 - 3.9) - A treatment goal of 2.5 mmol/L approximates to an LDL of 2.0 mmol/L

I'm a 46 yo male if that's of any use in the results?

IMHO there is nothing wrong with your cholesterol, my mother had an underactive thyroid and her problem was being overweight. You say you are now loosing weight, try reducing your carbohydrate intake in favour of a LCHF diet that should help you to loose weight and will improve your already good cholesterol results.

Please go beck to your GP and ask for a JBS3 risk analysis and full explanation.
