People in this site can give you some guidance, at the end of the day your GP practice can offer you answers to all your questions!
Please make an appointment to see your GP to check all the three numbers, BP, Blood glucose and blood cholesterol, ask for full explanation and write down all the answers for future reference. You need to look at the BIG picture not just cholesterol numbers I am afraid to say this.
Thanks. But to me it makes no sense. The good cholesteral going up and bad coming down has acutally made my total higher. I dont want go on statins but the docs do seem to look at the overall total.
your GP is responsible for your health!, you can suggest to your GP that you want explore the life style change and you are prepared to work towards by food intake control and regular exercise and see what happens.
Not just cholesterol numbers!, the numbers vary so do not look at other people's number. Discuss it with your GP and go for a life style change, to start with is can be difficult!
I do not take any supplements. Natural food, no processed food, veg and fruits.
Your GP will put you on statins [if you let him] if your Qrisk goes above 10%. It's your choice. Given that the number increases with each birthday you don't need to be a mathematical genius to see how the drs would have us all on statins.
My dr offered them to me as my Qrisk was 14% and other than my age [72] and well controlled hypertension there was nothing else wrong; [total cholesterol was 5.4 so possibly slightly dodgy]. So I asked her if she would take them if she were me and she said NO !
IMHO the NHS in it's wisdom would have the entire population statinised for choice.
Until Sir Rory Statin comes clean and divulges all the data on statins they are not for me. I firmly believe he is in the pocket of big pharma and it is not in their interest to be totally honest.
I agree with you gardengnome42. No statins for me. Im 55 have high blood pressure and take meds for those. Would like to come of them. Last time saw the doc she said she would advise statins as she has seen lots of people of who have had strokes and would recommend them.
