Hi, I'm InHiding - first time posting here so not really sure what to expect.

I was born with a visible facial difference, had surgery at 6 months and 13 years old. Was supposed to have further surgery when I turned 16 but it had to be cancelled and was never offered again. Schooldays were a nightmare due to looking obviously 'different' and the shaming and bullying that comes with that. I have managed to work for most of my life but I'm now in my late fifties and haven't worked outside of home for the last 4 years due to other health issues.

I found this forum via the Changing Faces website. Has anyone here has used the Changing Faces Counselling Service or Helpline, and if so how did you find it, was it helpful? I've had counselling for other issues in the past but have never been able to bring up this particular topic to discuss, even though it has had a profoundly negative affect on my life. I wondered if speaking to a counsellor who specialises in dealing with a visible difference might be easier.

Look forward to talking with others who might have had similar issues.

Hi Inhiding

Thank you for sharing about your situation with us and welcome to the Changing Faces community.

It sounds like things were tough for you growing up with a visible difference and I can see you mentioned experiencing bullying and shame because of this which must have been difficult for you. I hope you find this community a friendly and supportive space where you can connect with others and share support.

I noticed you also mentioned considering contacting the Wellbeing team at Changing Faces to discuss accessing some counselling support. You are welcome to call the Support and Information Line if you have any questions or would like an informal discussion if this could be helpful in making a decision about accessing further support. I have included the contact details for the Support and Information Line below in case this is helpful.
