As a presumptive series of tests, I would pursue talking with your doctor if there are currently unresolved issues with his health or if autoimmune diseases run in the family. Is there a particular reason why you ask the question?

Dear Buster292,

If you are concerned for your son because of your own autoimmune condition, it would be sensible to discuss with your GP, and to arrange for the specific antibody tests (ANA and SMA) to be undertaken.

Please click on the following weblink, and from there, click on the downloadable publication. I would like to direct you to page 9 where we discuss these tests, under: Testing for AIH.

If you would like to discuss in more detail, please feel free to give me a call on the Helpline number: 0800 652 7330

All good wishes and kind regards,
