Hi there, I am just wondering what anyone has experienced with MRE. I am due to have one next month and am curious how they compare with Fibroscan. I have had ultrasound elastology and Fibroscan and have had very different results from both. My most recent was 17 kpa with a 26% IQR...minimal fatty liver...sadly from alcohol but I have been completely sober since July 2023 when I first had any issues. My latest MRI (without elastology)has subtle contour irregularity and mild heterogeneity with background enhancement...the specialist said it likely is early cirrhosis but might still be F3 which holds more hope at improvement of course...I know the fibroscan charts say 17 kpa is F3 but my clinic says 12.5 kpa is.
Anyway - any hopeful stories that maybe the MRE is going to give me hope would be appreciated..
On a side note - I had a nodular contour at the start Jul 23 but that resolved to the subtle contour irregularity in 4 months and all my liver enzymes returned to normal really within 2 months...but things have pretty much stayed that way...the first fibroscan Apr 23 was 18.4 so I suppose a small improvement to go to 17 kpa in Oct 24....holding onto any hope I can - thanks for any help or advice everyone, have a super day.

MRE is the best scan for stiffness. A Fibroscan takes a part about the size of your index finger, right in the middle of the Liver. MRE will do the whole Liver. Fibroscan cut offs vary according to the cause of the damage.
I had an MRE after my Fibroscan and it was better. Mild rather than moderate on Fibroscan. I believe the MRE’s give more information on pictures, as well.
If you are not at the cirrhosis stage yet, the FDA has approved a new medicine for liver disease. If you have cirrhosis already, you cannot take it. Ask your doctor about it.
Bocellilover - Do you mind telling me what the Fibroscan kpa and the MRE kpa were? I am at the cusp so could go either way but I have and have never had...no splenomegaly, normal portal veins, no shrunken liver and my liver enzymes returned to normal within about a month...just a nodular contour that returned to subtle contour irregularity in 4 months...
I did yes…that’s strange…that’s why I asked what the Fibroscan was in kPa - would you mind sharing so I have a comparison...really appreciate it!! Also what the MRE was in kPa if you do not mind...thanks so much
