Finally got FibroScan

Some of you may remember I was diagnosed with NASH Cirrhosis on a CT scan a few months ago. I then had a FibroTest which showed F3 fibrosis. After months of waiting I finally had the FibroScan done last week and results are kpa 11.9 which is considered cirrhosis 😞 in NASH patients. I didn’t get a CAP score but results said “mildly heterogenous echotexture”.

I was hoping for a lower score because of the F3 on the FibroTest but sadly it looks like bad news. Haven’t seen the doctor yet, just got the results in patient portal.

Anyway the good news is no ascites and I had a normal colonoscopy and endoscopy last month with no varices. Also my bloodwork is normal. I guess I should count my blessings but I’m so depressed. I’ve been dieting and exercising and was really hoping to turn things around if I was at F3 but now I don’t know if there’s any hope for improvement. Will see what doc says next week.

Anyone with similar experience have any suggestions? Thanks to all you guys for this great forum.

sorry to hear this news. The only other thing I would do is an MRE for staging. Then you can be sure it is cirrhosis and stay well with good eating and exercise to prevent any problems such as varices, etc. you will need labs and ultrasound every six months.

I do still want to get the MRE but no one does it in my area so I’m going to try to get it done when I go to NY for the holidays.

On the fibroscan score charts 11.9 kPa is the point at which F3/4 just tips into F4 so there is still hope you can improve matters. If your inflammation markers are normal then you don't currently have the hepatitis but of NASH (non alcoholic state hepatitis) so liver isn't being attacked so continued healthy living should stop it getting worse and potentially still room for improvement. The fact your scan said mildly heterogeneous in texture is also good - mild is at lowest end of damage. (Mild, moderate, severe).

Don't be beaten by this thing, keep up the good work with your lifestyle changes and you'll be doing all you can to help your liver to stay as well as possible.

Thanks for the encouragement Katie. It seems I am just at the beginning point of cirrhosis and hopefully can keep it from getting worse. I’ve gotten over the depression pretty quickly and now I’m just mad. So I’m going to put that angry energy to good use and fight this thing and get back to better health. Thanks for always being here to help and support everyone. I’m praying for you and your hubby.

Hi I received my diagnosis in August NALD F4 I was shocked but changed diet did more steps a day than usual and have lost 12lb in weight and 2" around waist.

I had appointment last week at the hospital, feel better after that, they said I was doing all I could to stop it from progressing. I've had an Endoscopy last week, good news no varices, cancer or other problems.

I had bloods and US of abdomen done again and will have them and Fibroscan done every 6 months. I feel blessed that its been found as I hadn't been ill just Fatty liver diagnosis from routine bloods.

Good luck x

Thanks, sounds like we’re in similar situation. I’m working on losing 20 lbs and getting up to 10,000 steps (I’m doing around 8,000 now). We can fight this thing! Good luck to you too!
