fatty liver and gallstones

Hi I went for an ultrasound yesterday for suspected gallstones found out my gallbladder is full of them and also have fatty liver with multiple hepatic cysts one being 45mm. I spoke to a GP yesterday who is arranging to see about having my gallbladder removed. I have just had a call from the surgery to make an appointment to discuss my fatty liver, waiting back a call as they can’t fit me in as I go on holiday next Friday for 3 months.

Should I be worried? I am overweight 5 foot 2 and 11 stone 7 but eat a healthy diet but do drink red wine.

I take statins and tablets for high blood pressure and have just been told I am borderline diabetic.

Any help and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Where are you going on holiday? If your gall bladder issue isn't sorted out by the time you go away what plans have you got for if you have gall bladder trouble, a blockage or infection if you are away?

If they are talking about gall bladder removal it sounds like they feel there may be issues incoming and you certainly don't want to end up with any sort of emergency scenario.

Are you going abroad? Will your travel insurance cover this now as a pre-known condition.

You seem to have a good few contributory factors for NAFLD - you can treat this with healthy diet, exercise and perhaps a reduction/cutting out of the red wine as it will be contributing to any fat build up.

The BLT has pages about gall bladder issues and NAFLD at:-

Neither the gall stone issue nor the fatty liver are to be ignored as both can cause you some big issues going forward. But both are treatable.

Thanks for the reply I am going abroad I have only had 2 episodes of gallbladder pain the GP said it won’t harm to be referred she was very knowledgeable about this as she has had hers removed. I am covered by insurance and have a health card.
