Happy Saturday everyone ! Can I just ask if any of you were successful in reversing alcoholic fatty liver disease ? I’ve been on a really good path for nearly 6 months (barr the odd glass) and hoping for good results in April 🤞September scan showed moderate fatty liver, no scarring or inflammation and liver was normal size.
Fatty liver reversal.: Happy Saturday... - British Liver Trust
Fatty liver reversal.
Well done on keeping off the alcohol (bar the odd glass). I too had a mild fatty liver and gave up alcohol 100% (I was dependent so this was the only way). I then had a private fibroscan after eight months which showed no detectable fat at all. After the fibroscan, the doctor mentioned other factors for a fatty liver such as diet and weight, but he said my giving up the alcohol was the biggest help. I was amazed it cleared up within a matter of months.
Great job then Coco on giving up alcohol, exercising, and eating well, you definitely get the halo of the year award 😇 for such achievements 👍. <strangely for me - not a joke>

Thanks Miles, I have to admit I was let off very lightly after drinking the equivalent of a bottle of wine a day for 15 years, doing no exercise and being obese. Now I’m slim and healthy, the amount of things I can do which would’ve been impossible for my former self are endless. To go back to drinking just the one and risk losing all that, no thanks 👍
Hi CB
It’s good to see that Coco has responded so positively- and that should give you lots of hope 👍.
Good luck.
Miles
Yes, healthy eating and exercise and no alcohol, well done and keep going!
Yeah, i reversed mine, i think.

My last ultrasound said there was only a small 5cm patch of fat left on my liver which im told is normal. That is opposed to last november where i had fatty enlarged liver.
I have a fibroscan in the next few weeks to be sure.
Its all down to weightloss and low carb/sugar diet and as Cocochanel said above no alcohol as it turns streight into fat in the liver. 👍🏼
You’ve done brilliantly, B3 👍
After this upcoming fibroscan, you need to stop worrying and enjoy the rewards of your success. I could bang on about what I’ve been up to since I saw the light, but not everyone on this forum shares my positivity unfortunately, so I’ll just say try something new and surprise yourself 🙂
I shall share your optimism after the fibroscan 😉.
I still have ruq pains which my GI consultant thinks isnt related to my liver as there are all sorts of things in the ruq that cause pain so has ordered an endoscopy as he suspects partially healed duodenal ulcer so the journey isnt over yet.
But as long as i havent knackered my liver (there is no reason to say i have) then iwill be happy. An ulcer is treatable
Fingers crossed, but it sounds like you’re nearly out the woods.
I’ve said this before, but I had aches and pains in that area on and off for 8 months after I quit drinking, and throughout this time I’d already reached a healthy weight and was eating healthily (I always did this to be honest). There was of course the possibility that I’d damaged my liver previously so I too had a fibroscan.
Very bizarrely, when I got the all clear from that test, the aches and pains vanished the same day. It must have been the very small concern about previous damage (which wasn’t so unlikely given my alcohol history) which caused my mind to generate those aches.
hi there-like you I'm 5 months plus with zero alcohol. I've certainly reversed alcoholic fatty liver in the past although this time I might have pushed the boundaries too far. Never the less-all my bloods are good and in normal range-getting GGT and AST done next friday and we'll see what's what. 6 months alcohol free should certainly do lots of good things for your liver. Keep up the good work. Diet and exercise helps too.
Hi there 😊
How many times have you reversed alcoholic fatty liver back to normal?
Well I ve reversed it to the stage of no symptoms a few times but gets progressively worse each time in my experience
What are your fatty liver symptoms if you don’t mind me asking?
and how do you know it gets progressively worse?
