Hello! I had an ultrasound scan done back in January after routine blood tests showed high liver enzymes and I was diagnosed with non alcoholic fatty liver. It’s being blamed on my weight and I’ve worked really hard to improve this and I’ve lost over 2 stone since then (18% body weight), steadily and consistently. My diet is healthy and balanced, even my GP said this when I discussed with her, and I’m exercising by daily walks and swimming as much as I can (I’ve been suffering with chronic fatigue since I had Covid 2 years ago so it’s not easy to exercise as much as I’d like). I don’t drink alcohol or smoke and never have.
However, despite the weight loss my liver enzymes are still increasing, I had two blood tests done a month apart and the latest ones have increased even in that space of time. Also my bilirubin is now high in the last two blood tests when it has been fine before. Also my cholesterol is high too, I don’t know if this has always been the case as it’s only just been checked at my last blood test and awaiting a phone consultation with my GP to discuss this.
I just wondered if anyone else had any experiences of this and am I being unrealistic to think that 2 stone weight loss should have at least stabilised my liver enzymes if not improved them? I will obviously discuss this with my GP but wanted to know others experiences? Apparently I don’t meet the threshold for a fibroscan or referral.
Thank you
