Some good news

I was told on the fifth of December that my ultrasound scan had picked up three small suspicious lesions, and that what they saw was suggestive of cirrhosis, portal vein hypertension and varices. I immediately quit alcohol, eating cannabis and otc sleeping remedies. I radically changed my diet and began swimming three to four times a week. After a horrendous few weeks with awful sleeping trouble, nightmares, terrible gastric symptoms, and awful anxiety chiefly brought on by far too much googling, I am starting to feel much better. And I am happy to say my mri and cat scan came back with no evidence whatsoever of cancer in either my liver or other organs. I have not yet seen the gastroenterologist who wrote to me with the results, and he has suggested via this letter that he sees me in three to four months time. My bloods in October were all in normal range and I seem to have no symptoms of decompensated liver disease. The only symptoms I have have had are chiefly gastric (which are significantly less now, and I think likely due to cannabis withdrawal), some pain in the liver and spleen area (spleen showed as slightly swollen on original ultrasound), again has decreased quite a bit, and feeling very tired and terrible sleep. However I am a lifelong insomniac (hence the use of alcohol and other drugs to help me sleep) and even this has improved a little. I still have no idea if I actually have cirrhosis and feel anxious not knowing. Has anyone else had anything similar? I just want to speak to a specialist to understand what is going on in my body.

well done for changing your lifestyle it isn’t easy but it pays off in the end I feel so much happier for it. I can really see and appreciate everything now.

They would know by now if you’ve had an mri and cat scan if you have chirrosis you need to ask the consultant about this. I had an mri but they didn’t tell me until I had my first consultation that it was definitely chirrossi. It may not be but you need to know.

Thanks and well done to you too for changing your lifestyle :). I am hoping I will get to speak to the consultant before the 3 or 4 months but will definitely keep my new healthy lifestyle for good, not taking any chances ever again! All the best of luck with your journey and hopefully all the changes we have made can lead to a long, healthy and happy life xx

Great job in adapting a healthy lifestyle! Regardless of what the results provide specially, things can always be improved upon.

I had GI problems in the beginning, which had all stemmed from my liver. Since improving my lifestyle, they have all vanished - every symptom! Even my anxiety. 😊

I suggest adding prebiotic and probiotic food to the diet, to help diversify the gut microbial bacteria. With alcohol, it can destroy some of the bacteria, allowing a permeation or “leaky gut” which allows further harm to the liver and permeation between the gut and liver axis. You might want to look into it - food such as kefir yogurt, avocado.. etc. My sister had terrible IBS, and is on a similar diet to me (which is no longer an issue for her!😄).

I wish you the best of luck!

Ha ha that's brilliant. Also a long term sufferer of ibs and all these avocados and pre biotics and kefir are definitely helping with that too. My mum bought me four bars of 70% chocolate as she read it was liver friendly. Nice to still be eating a tiny bit of chocolate still xx

Definitely! Enjoy your well earned treat for yourself! 😀 Cocoa is a flavonoid (and an antioxidant) to boot!
