how just wanted to share my recent ultrasound results , which I think are positive. Although this is quite a disease to get your head around and I learn something new everyday.

Nodular outline and course echotexture n keeping with known chirrosis .

Normal directional flow within the portal and hepatic veins.no spleenagamy , no ascites. No hepatic focal lesion or evidence of decompensation .

Good results, ok the cirrhosis is confirmed but normal portal and hepatic veinous flow means unlikely any portal hypertension, spleen good, no ascites, no nasty lumps or bumps.

Keep up the good work and keep that liver compensated.

I don’t really understand portal hypertension at all but glad you think there’s a possibility I may not have it . Hope your husband is doing ok . X

Portal hypertension is when the blood which usually gets channelled and dealt with through the liver can no longer do so because of all the scar tissue from cirrhosis causing blockages. The blood then backs up causing a reversal of that portal veinous flow (yours is normal) and it starts trying to reroute itself round the blockages - often into smaller blood vessels not designed for that increased capacity and this is how things like varices form when the blood vessel walls start to bulge due to the increased amount of blood inside them.

Your report says you have normal portal and hepatic veinous flow so hopefully none of that reversal and backing up going on i.e. no portal hypertension.

Hubby isn't great, just waiting on dates for transplant assessment in January. Sleeping lots but over that horrific bout of Hepatic Encephalopathy he had in the run up to Christmas.

no one not even my husband knows my diagnosis so this forum has been quite a strength to me x

My hubby and I have been in this together right from the start, he'd have trouble understanding all the med. speak and indeed attending appointments if we were not such a team. Sometimes two sets of ears are better than one as well. Hopefully you won't deteriorate but if you do you'll need someone by your side.

Best wishes, Katie x

I understand and quite envious of your relationship you’re both lucky but not everyone has that same relationship. Thank you for all the info
