Advice for Hair Loss?

Anyone have a remedy for hair loss from liver disease? My hair is falling out a lot every day. I’ve been using collagen and keratin shampoo and I’ve tried rosemary oil but nothing works. I’m gonna be bald soon 😱

Does anything work? I read that the hair loss can be from lack of protein. I eat a lot of protein but maybe my liver is not processing it? I don’t know. Any suggestions for what to do?

hi there FO,

Are your liver enzymes (AST, ALT, ALP) in normal range or decreasing? It seems that once mine decreased and stabilized, my skin got healthier and my hair thicker. Recently, my hairdresser commented on my hair being so thick.

Also, Vitamin deficiencies (commonly associated with liver disease) could be contributing with this. Vitamins B and D. Many people with liver disease are low in these, and they are involved in hair health and growth.

I hope this helps. 🙂

Thanks Greengal, my liver enzymes are normal as is all my other bloodwork. I may need to double up on my vitamins. I take B, D and E but maybe need higher dose.

Hi

I experienced this following my diagnosis of liver chirosis and I tried different shampoos, vitamins etc but it still was falling out, my doctor did further blood tests and I was B12 deficient I have injections every quarter and that helped my hair loss immensley, may be a coincidence but worth talking to your doctor about it 😊

yes, I’d see a doctor before increasing vitamins beyond the recommended amount as the fat soluble ones can be harmful in high quantities.

Hi, this isn't liver related but thought I would share as hair loss is distressing. My daughter (shes 19) has lost over half her hair and it was iron deficiency but was also suggested it could be hormonal or stress related. With the stress she was asked what had happened about 3 months before hair loss began because it takes about that amount of time to trigger it. She is now on extra strong iron tablets for just over 2 months and hair loss has certainly reduced and has started to grow back. Maybe a simple blood test could rule out either iron or hormones causing it? Hope you get it sorted.

I had the same situation after my bout with hepatitis. I also have cirrhosis. I started using a shampoo and conditioner called ROUTINE Wellness and it has helped with my hair growth and helped the thinning hair have some volume. I also take vitamins with biotin which you should ask your doctor if it’s safe to take biotin. I understand the feeling I was so upset my hair was falling out in clumps at one time but has improved takes some time though. But the shampoo helped with the hair volume right away.

Thank you I’ll try that shampoo and conditioner. Is there a biotin vitamin and is it safe to take with cirrhosis?
