Hi all, I’m 56 and stage 4 cirrosis fatty liver and still doing well. Though, my hair is falling out loads. I’m wondering if I’m not getting enough protein. I have lots of food intolerances so take a daily all round supplement. Anyone shed a light on this.
Hair loss?: Hi all, I’m 56 and stage... - British Liver Trust
Hair loss?
It's normal for your hair to fall out with cirrhosis.... The liver provides the nutrients for our hair so with cirrhosis it saves the nutrients for the more important stuff due to it not functioning properly
Hi juiie8, very same as me.. stage 4, cirrhosis and fatty liver.. not had any hair loss. Infact it's the opposite. Way too much hair. 🙄x
Thers two thoughts about protein in the medical profesion, best to see a dietian through hospital you can request it,my hair was falling out but bigger problem was my body was eating my muscle so dietian said have a snack by your bed and eat cheese, cream cakes drink milk especally marvel mixed in milk, love this diet and it worked, good luck.
I wonder if this has anything to do with hair pigment? I've gone considerably grey-er since diagnosis! Mind you, I'm 36 so should expect some but not around 40% 😳
I think it's a symptom of cirrhosis. Maybe you could try taking other precautions to limit hair fall and see if they yield any results like using a microfiber towel or a cotton t-shirt to dry your hair. Massaging your head regularly to promote blood circulation which would in turn cause hair growth. Using a good wide toothed hair comb like the Madora comb or Mason Pearson comb, both of which have very good reviews. Sleeping on a silk pillow, Not tying your hair in a tight bun because that might pull your hair roots and cause hairfall. Letting your hair free. If you use a hair dryer, put the temperature on a medium scale (I'm not sure about this because you shouldn't catch a cold. The immune system is weak enough in liver cirrhosis so maybe you shouldn't try this one), Wearing a silk scarf to protect hair, etc
Thank you all for your replies, it’s nice to know we’re not alone out there.
