hello, has anyone with decompensated cirrhosis discovered hair loss? My hair is so thin or snapped or fell out, besides eating more protein I have biotin injections but it’s getting worse, would not be so bad if I was a man but unfortunately am not!
hair loss: hello, has anyone with... - British Liver Trust
hair loss
I am compensated but have really bad hair loss. It falls out and covers everything. I put it down to my type 2 diabetes which I believe can cause hair loss .... hmm you have me wondering now. Don't be fooled into buying the expensive caffeine shampoos, they just don't work!
when I came out of hospital I noticed my hair was very coarse and I lost a bit of hair at the front over my forehead.
However it did grow back quite quickly once I started eating better (and no alcohol). I don’t know if it helped (I thought it did) but I bought a good hairbrush and brushed my hair regularly to massage the scalp.
Good luck x
Hi, my daughter had hair loss, dry broken hair etc and lost nearly half her hair over a few months. It turned out to be vitamin deficiency (iron , b vit) she has a healthy diet as shes still at home and her father has liver disease so a good diet here. Maybe a quick visit to gp and ask. It can also be anxiety or hormone related too. I brought her a hair piece (pony tail) as she was only 19 at the time, it can really hurt your confidence as a female. Hope you get sorted.
I did have hair loss when I was first diagnosed in March 21. My hair had been very thick but was noticeably thinner at the time. I also lost all body hair. Once I stopped drinking, started eating properly and looking after myself it grew back. My hairdresser said she could feel the growth and the differences in texture in my hair as I got better. Three years on and my hair is soft and thick again.
Hi Kingbilly3 I had my bad hair loss after my transplant, I’ve always had very thick hair but when I came home I walked away from my wife and she gasped I had a bald patch at the back of my head. Being a man I said if it gets worse I would just shave it all off but it all grew back, so fingers crossed for you good luck.
Stay safe all

hello kingbilly3. My husband has PSC cirrhosis amongst other things. His hair has gone very thin and he has lost most of his body hair. All doctors are baffled. It’s definitely something to do with his liver. He hates it. His legs look as though they have been waxed.
