Hi there. I was diagnosed with cirrhosis in August last year. Whilst very poorly, I lost all body hair, although my head hair was ok. Just over a year on, and feeling much better, hair has now returned. The itching you have is probably due to high bilirubin levels. Once these return to normal, the itching should die down. I still get a little itchy come night time and take an antihistamine. Sometimes works, sometimes not. Just do what you've been told to do by your doctor in order to get better. It does take time tho. Best wishes to you going forward with your journey x

What are your blood numbers indicating? If the itch is due to increased bilirubin there are treatments that doctors can prescribe to help ease it - various creams, antihistimine tablets, things like Urso (which is prescribed for bile duct problems). Wearing natural fibres and keeping as cool as possible can help. This search of previous posts on the topic of 'Itching' might provide you some pointers. healthunlocked.com/britishl...

Likewise there are a number of previous posts on the subject of 'Hair Thinning / Hair Loss' which may prove useful.

sorry about your hair loss. I was dealing with it too. I couldn’t tell if it was from the medication or the disease. But my Hepatologist put me on extra folic acid. It didn’t seem to help and now I have my full head of hair back.

of course you need to talk to your Hepatologist first. Before starting any medication or vitamin.

Hope this helps ,

Sara,

I was diagnosed with primary biliary cirrhosis back in 2016. I’m still hanging strong. So there is hope. Ijust want you to know that. There are so many others on here that have had , Liver diseases. For many many years. In this form. You will fine, a great deal of information. Help and encouragement.

Wishing you good luck with your journey, Lorraine Louise

Hello, sorry to be late on your message.

On initial diagnosis I lost a lot of hair from my head and body (everywhere) but all has now grown back and did so after about 6 months starting treatment for cirrhosis. I don't know for sure, but I thought it was to do with my general weakness and loss of muscle and normal body function. Unfortunately I do get very itchy - it comes and goes in severity but assisted by colestyramine 4g x 2 a day and aqueous and menthol cream called Dermacool.

I hope you are doing well.
