Greetings! Has anyone incorporated probiotics into their diet and if so, were there any apparent benefits?
I read a recent research study where it improved practically every liver function test, including our missing platelets. 😁 in addition to my avocado (3 per week est) I am adding probiotic non fat yogurt. Siggi’s Icelandic. Any thoughts ?
Hiya. I just read your post and read the article too. This looks really interesting. I have just looked at the foods that contain probiotics - some, I'm not too keen on. I like artichokes and asparagus. I also looked at tablet forms of which there is is a lot of choice. I have compensated cihrossis (alcohol related 2 years alcohol free now) so I will definitely give this a go. The apple cider, I'm already using (very tasty gummies). Most of the foods seem to be of fermented origin. If it improves my liver, anything is definitely worth a try. Thanks for posting. Very helpful. Best wishes Golly
I use a liquid yogurt probiotic drink. The Icelandic yogurt should also be good. But I would say get something that you prefer so you take it daily. Blessings
hi not sure if you mean pre or pro biotic. I have been including fermented foods such as sauerkraut and kimchi as well as kefir yogurts to my diet and I have found a great improvement in my gut health. I have less bloating and trapped wind and and it can help ease severe constipation along with lactulose and bisacodyl. Not sure if it has an impact on my bloods which have been stable for some time. Not seeing am increase in my platelet count though which is still often lower than it should be.
For the past few months I’ve been doing a lot of reading about plant based diets. The consensus seems to be that in order to improve your general health you have to improve your gut microbiome and this is done by eating a wide range of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes like beans, lentils and whole grains like brown rice, quinoa etc. all in their natural state. Pro and prebiotics are good too like live organic yoghurt and even better kefir. Fermented foods like sauerkraut and kimchi are good but have a lot of salt so not so good for those with liver problems. Green tea is very good and coffee and water. No fruit juices as these are too concentrated and high in sugar.
I have fatty liver so I’m mostly following this diet but still eating some salmon and chicken about once a week and occasional red meat. I use plant based milk on cereal but have fat free cows milk in tea. I eat dark chocolate 70% or higher and drink cocoa with no sugar which seems to help me sleep better.
For liver disease I was told that it is important to eat a high protein diet with plenty of lean meat and full fat milk. Fat free and non-dairy milk do not contain the nutritional benefits of whole milk. To rely purely on plant-based foods to provide the protein required to maintain muscle mass would be very difficult without a large amount of beans/pulses plus supplements x
Thanks Corin! I’ve read a lot too and trying to improve my gut micro biome- that in additional to protein and vitamin rich foods. I’ve also been dabbling into cocoa, green tea, avocado, kefir, papaya, etc A little here and a little there….😊
I believe it all adds up to overall improvement. Diet and exercise.
Thanks ! Good to hear. I have a glass of probiotic yogurt or some avocado every day. My digestion has been excellent since I started doing that. I think it helps a lot.
My sister is on a similar pattern and she has no liver issues. Just some IBS.
