There are various shampoos e.g. Regain, Nioxin etc. that supposedly help stop hair loss. Nioxin, Tricomin, Revivogen, Nizoral, Minoxidil (Rogaine) are all okay according to liver specialist Dr Melissa Palmer. Another possibility is a crew cut if you are male or cutting your hair shorter if female as shorter hair is less prone to falling out. When my liver was compromised my hair started to fall out. It stopped & reversed itself to some extent when my liver improved. I have a different liver issue however to most people on the forum.

When you finish the course of the chemo tablet your hair should grow back which is something to look forward to.

Hi there Paderico,

When I was on chemo, I managed to keep some of the hair on my head (it was thinning anyway) but I lost every hair on my body from the neck down.

I didn't bother trying to stop it but I'm a man and I was losing it anyway on the head.

If you do decide to use any of the preparations that are supposed to increase hair growth I would check with your specialists first to get the OK.

I hope that you are managing to enjoy some of this sunshine while it lasts, supposed to cool down from tomorrow :-(

Best wishes to you.

I have been losing my hair steadily for months as well. I have not found the shampoos Edward named below much good as I don't like to wash my hair too often but seem to be having some success with Kerastase Genesis rage, you use the serum every day without washing and the shampoo when you wash

Hello, and I don't believe a word of it, Oldboiler indeed.. you are a very nice lady as you have taken the time and answered one of my boring questions.. Thanks for that I have made a note of the serum and shampoo and will ask my Onco (If) and when I get to speak with him. Not a very nice thing this Liver lark is it, also it springs many surprises on us, most of which we could well do without. Thanks again and I hope we spk soon. All my best wishes.

Hi Pederico.

Some of the things suggested above, like minoxidil contain alcohol and will go systemic when applied to the skin, so will get into the blood stream and should be avoided if you have organ problems like with your Liver. Also, because it goes systemic it will almost certainly cause excess hair growth all over your body.

I think ‘Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo’ might help. It contains amongst other things Peppermint oil, which is proven to stimulate and promote hair growth. Use a couple of times a week and maybe get a Peppermint essential oil and add a few drops to a carrier oil like jojoba or meadowfoam oil to use in-between. The carrier oil is important as essential oils especially peppermint oil if used neat will hurt your skin.

I’d recommend avoiding applying too many chemical, so because it’s more natural I’d actually suggest getting Akoma Black soap liquid to use as a shampoo and adding 2 to 3 drops of the peppermint oil to 100ml of the liquid, test it and increase if needed, but don’t add too much more (Max 6 drops).

Hope this help.

Hi,

I hope you are feeling well as can be expected. It is distressing 😏( get it?) to lose your hair. You could take the approach of cutting it drastically shorter to lessen the trauma. In fact, Edward refers to this approach and is spot on! 👍

I'm not sure if you can do anything to stop your hair falling out while you are on chemo. I had chemo at age thirteen and lost all of my waist length hair. Let's hope you won't have to deal with bullies snatching your wig off on the school bus!

I will assure you that it does grow back relatively quickly, although the color/texture may be a bit different.

I think l would go for a pixie cut. I would treat myself to at least two wigs (so you can wash/style one while wearing the other) of human hair or a better synthetic. Maybe one in a style or color very different from your own and one in a shade closer to your natural hair color? They will slide around without any hair to secure them to, but you can use double stick tape or a scarf to hold them closer to your head.

I hope that helps. I know it's not an easy thing to deal with, and maybe there is more to it now than in 1974.

Bbfn. Take care. x

Hi there and thank you for taking an interest, yes I am finding this phase a little difficult between the pain nausea and now this, anyway if needs Be as they say better this than the alternative. Gosh having chemo at such a young age that was rough, how are you doing now? I hope things have gone better for you. Deep down I do know that these things are hard to swallow, but wow a woman's hair..... not that mine was ever a great asset but I am sure missing every handful as it falls from my brush. Again Bootandall thank you for your most welcome reply, All my best wishes.

Hi Paderico.

Hope this is a good morning for you.

Remember to eat little and often through the nausea, even if just a dry biscuit when you are really struggling and plenty of water is always good.

I remember not being sure at some points if I was nauseous because I was actually hungry or nauseous because of the chemo :-( Sometimes eating settled my stomach. It's hard sometimes to get that balance right.

It's going to warm up a bit today after the sudden temperature drop yesterday.

Nice to have the sunshine and some garden time.

Be nice in your greenhouse today :-) :-)

All the best as always :-)

Good morning Alf O yes you are so right, it is a little hard to try and see the difference between them, I am feeling a little hungry and then a wave of nausea, so I try to stick to the "Little and often rule". I also worry about my weight as it is dropping. You are right Alf it is a lovely day and I don't want to waste it, so I am going to cheer myself up and get on with a bit of online shopping and stop worrying about. things so much, have a good day Alf All my best wishes.
