Hey bucket,

That’s fantastic news! Did you have them prior or was this your first one since finding out about cirrhosis?

My cirrhosis caused by azaphoprine to treat my ulcerative colitis

May I ask if your doctors are sure that the only cause of your cirrhosis was azaphoprine? Any other findings like autoimmune disease?

they did every blood test and biopsy ahd endoscopy and yes it shows 98% azaphoprine being the cause. Since I came off it January by blood platelets are rising again so that is good.

How much Azathione did you take ? And for how long time have you taken it ?I take Azathione because of autoimmune hepatitis.

hi Millie I was on 50 mg of azaoprine to treat ulcerative colitis which did manage it but sadly caused liver cirrhosis.it is very rare though and I was unlucky. Hopefully it will be ok for you. My findings were from my blood platelets dropping.

Hi Bucket, I am on Azathoprine, is there concrete medical proof that this causes Cirrohis of the liver? I to have Cirrohis of the liver?

"Medications: Some medications used to manage UC, such as sulfasalazine and thiopurines (including azathioprine and mercaptopurine), have been associated with liver toxicity in rare cases. Regular monitoring of liver function is typically recommended for individuals taking these medications."
