Hi, there are so many different symptoms when you have cirhossis that each individual has their own different health issues. Perhaps mention it to your doctor or liver specialist when you see him or her, best wishes, Julie
Hello jule
Thanks for the reply
It's my dad who was diagnosed..I'm freaking out every day and get so paranoid..
Thanks for your advice
Hi, sorry I couldn't be more specific but I've had some wierd symtomes like painful feet in the morning's, itchy ankles and a unpredictable sleep pattern. I just get told its to be expected and I get on with it. Will be interested to find out what Dr says to your dad.
Best wishes and good luck
Julie
My hubby has lost a lot of muscle in his arms & neck . He also has acsities. Has itching on his arms and back. His liver cirrhosis isn't from drinking . They said we'll probably never know what caused it. You just gotta take one day at a time.
i know this so well. at this point , im at stage 4. no one yet can diagnose origin . i dont drink or have any hep. if you looked at me , you coulnt tell anything was wrong. but on paper, im almost in the grave. still remains uncontrolled @ stage 4
Hubbys dr won't tell him how bad he is. They keep saying we're not gonna worry about that. We want to know. I read a lot about it. All husband symptoms are bad.
i waited for over three years to get them to tell me how bad off i am. none of it is pleasant. they still cant keep my meds in order, which are many. not the gasterologist or primary care dr would tell me , so i found a infectiuos disease dr who did
Husband is on 3 different water pills twice a day. Can't sleep without sleeping pills. Is angry a lot
Jeffnet1967 have you been tested for Alpha1 Antitrypsin Deficiency?
if your asking if i have copd. the answers is yes.
I was asking if you had been tested for Alpha1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. I have liver issues so my GE did various tests. Alpha1 was one. It might explain your liver issues. Antitrypsin is made in the liver & sent to the lungs to protect them. If you have A1, you don't make enough antitrypsin, or it gets stuck in your liver, leaving your lungs with not enough Antitrypsin to protect them. And it can misfold to get stuck in your liver, causing problems. I have Alpha1, & am having PFT testing in Dec. It might be something to check out.
I should say...it depends on the genotype you have on whether it gets stuck in your liver. The "Z" allele is the one that misfolds, getting stuck in your liver. I am genotype "IZ". People with the MS, or SS genotypes usually don't develop liver issues.
Severe A1AT deficiency causes panacinar emphysema or COPD in adult life in many people with the condition
My husband lost lots of weight in March when he developed pneumonia & hemathroax & ended up in ICU for 10 days as developed ecoli from his clan turning I to sepsis.
when on the ward the dietitian said he lost a lot of weight because his liver was to longer able to produce proteins & store energy it was using muscle mass for energy. They put him on a high fat high carb diet to help his recovery, pleased to say it has worked, but remember every situation is different
Menti9n it to your consultant/GP
One thing that might be useful to know is that once your liver shows symptoms of decompensation, it doesn't have to stay decompensated. Medication can help reduce ascites for instance. The hope will be to get the liver back to a compensated state, so don't lose hope. If your dad is feeling fatigued, it might be that he is moving around less and will lose muscle mass anyway. If you are unsure what to look for, then best to ask the consultant for guidance to put your mind at rest or go with your dad on his next visit if at all possible. All the very best
Hi, regarding your Dad's symtoms - I also have loss of muscle in neck and arms due to inefficient storage of energy (Alcoholic Cirrohsis). I would consider asking for a referral to a Dietician as they help measure muscle loss and suggest good liver healthy meals high in carbs and proteins to prevent muscle being lost to produce energy. I was near death just about a year ago with Decompensated Liver and the subsequent Ascites, Oedema, mild Varices, Insomnia, fatigue etc, as with End Stage Liver Disease. Pleased to say thanks to the team at my GP surgery, local hospital and Q E Hospital Birmingham I am doing a lot better, compensated (on meds)with muscle wastage now my top priority to pay serious attention to. Best wishes.
It's good to know that even with all these horrendous symptoms, you have, with the help of the professionals returned to a compensated state. Good luck with everything in the future
Thanks, hope all works out ok for you too. Just keep chipping away at it all.
My husband has lost a lot of muscle too. He finds it hard to eat before going to bed and first thing in the morning but these are the important times
