Hope everyone is doing ok. I have liver cirrhosis with all usual niggles, sore joints, extreme tiredness ,poor sleep but wondered if anyone feels cold really badly. I only seen to be warm with direct heat i.e hot water bottle . Go for a bath and im cosy for about 5 mins after. Heating up high all day but I just don't seem to ever feel warm. Is this a normal side effect of liver cirrhosis

Liver cirrhosis
Can't say I've noticed any substantial difference. Everyone else in the house always feel the cold. I did sweat beforehand but the badness seems to be out of me now.
Our condition would lend itself to lower body temp as in not as active with aches pains tiredness etc maybe blood flow not as strong? Diet fueling the inner central heating? Last two just guessing. ๐ฅ
Hi.
Just wondering how did you cope with the sweating? I haven't got cirrhosis as yet but I sweat profusely which I never did until I had liver disease. I'm on oxybutynin , it only helps a bit
Turn the heating off & everyone else put their coats on. Joking.
My sweats were pre diagnosis. Think it was purely the poison escaping, especially with night sweats & snoring. Fell on deaf ears with GP didn't acknowledge or offer meds.
I don't have the symptoms alco free.๐
Sweats due to diabetes & meds.?
Thank you. Could be.
Amongst it's 500 different functions one of the livers jobs is to act as your bodies thermostat. Feeling cold with cirrhosis is a pretty normal thing. My hubby is currently sitting with his back to the electric fire whilst also wearing normal clothes plus a fleece jacket and goes to bed in a woolly hat and fleecy pj's. He really struggles to get/stay warm - also can no longer cope with hot weather in summer.
Katie
Thanks katie. I drive my family and when they visit as house is like a greenhouse. Absolutely love going abroad tho and can handle the best no problem . Maybe need to move over their permanently ๐
Hi Kate, my husband was exactly the same before he had his recent transplant. He would sit on the heart of the fire with so many layers of clothes on, but could never get warm. It was extremely frustrating as it was like a greenhouse and I couldnโt take any more clothes off !!!!!
So now heโs 4 weeks post transplant and there is a definite improvement in his ability to thermoregulate despite him dropping a further 13kg in that time.!!! I am hoping that it will improve more as he begins to put on some weight and slowly regain some muscle.
The Liver is a wonderous and complex organ.
Hi Annie
Feeling cold is an absolutely normal situation when you have cirrhosis. It is unfortunate but true ๐๐. . When I went for my TP Assessment at the QEHB the nurse asked all of us being assessed - who feels cold while their partner feels hot. All eight of us being Assessed put our hands up. It was weird ......
Miles
Did you also feel extremely hot in summer? Needing to be in the a/c or you are flushed and sweating?
No boot, I was cold irrespective ๐.
Do you get hot then ๐๐
In summertime year before last l was making book deliveries between branches and my face would be flushed and l would be pouring sweat just from putting the bins on a wheeled cart. I actually didn't notice if l got back in the a/c right away, but l looked like l had been through the wringer.
Hi Annie,
I think you're onto something! l am sitting here shivering under a blanket with a large furry cat.
I have been wearing long pajamas for two months already.
I change my sox twice a day usually so how come you can go two months with your long jamas? ๐
??
Iโm being ridiculous- pretending I thought you havenโt changed them (laundered) in 2 months! ๐
I got it filly ๐.
Boot must have had - sorry is having - maybe - a bad night ๐. Oh arenโt I rude boot - but guess youโre used to me being rude. Filly is ๐.
Boot has said that 'dry humour' isn't easily translated trans Atlantically: I believe her - She's just not the sort to shoot another chap's fox..... Btw, I don't read you as rude but I am used to you!
One of the very few......๐
Me too
Hi Boot
I'm the same ! Not sleeping well! I'm sitting here in my lovely furry onesies covered with a blanket , furry boot slippers, heating on and my hands are freezing ! I do hope I get a diagnosis soon!
Monthly blood tests today at the hospital! ๐
My sofas are covered in throws and I've got my electric blanket thick duvet and heavy bedspread on. My poor hubby sweating away to notjing. Says it's like living in a permanent sauna. On plus side my westie loves it!
We had a perpetual battle re the heating temperature controls!
I'm lucky as Derek like's the heat ! ๐Heating on full blast plus coal look alike gas fire lit last night then crawled into my warm bed after Alexa switched it on 15 minutes earlier ๐
Room lights now controlled by Alex too ๐
Derek's just loving this technology.....
Alex? Alex? you never told us you had a lodger....
I know that feeling well! Take care x
Had some difficulty navigating some things tonight. But just wanted to say:
What a lovely thing you are doing!
You look really fab, too!
Unsolicited advice:
Don't lift any knees/legs when you jump.
Don't drink anything/alcoholic beforehand!
Absolutely - somewhere here I read don't look down when you get close. Don't! Trust me on that! A neckbrace later.....
The ground is closer than you think!
What a wonderful thing you are doing, Shropshire! Be safe and enjoy!
Thank you so much! So many heros on so many levels! We can all try to do our part, I guess. xo Stay safe!
BTW....A Grandfather of mine was born in Shrewsbury. Until he was snatched away from his poor family to farm in Canada. Not ok. Poor guy. He was 12. Although some records suggest he was older. No, he was only 12. How sad.
Hi Annie
That you for your fabulous messages and advice !
Sorry to read about your grandfather being shipped over to Canada , do you know whether he survived the journey as my hubby's been tracking his family ancestors for almost 17 years and the information he's come across is amazing which he always updates me on, on mine too!
Take care
Love Trish xxx
Well for sure he survived. Here I am!
I just adore lots of throws ๐คฉ am I sad or what?

For pity's sake don't copy his annoying habit of spreading a reply over several inches Trish - that's what makes us lose the thread, plot, Queen and country when we try to find who said what where! Anyway, postcards? Do they still make them?
His is a blurry pain............

I love being snuggled up but I also like the windows open!!
Me too! I need fresh air.
Hi Annie, my thermostat is wonky too. More often than not I feel too hot or too cold because when I dress up or down to get comfortable Iโm soon (20 minutes) the other extreme. My hands and especially feet, are always cold. I always wear soft top woollen sox in bed and all day. Iโm often the only person wearing gloves when Iโm out!
Ditto. Love my fleecy woolen socks and gloves.
It's awful. I look like a mummy when I go out walking. On positive side of i failover in so well padded it doesn't hurt ๐
Post TP and I still have to wear socks in bed ๐. Thereโs my wife throwing off the duvet! I donโt get it. But hey ho ๐. Maybe blame other issuettes - thatโs what I think Iโll do ๐๐.
Milo
Annie, I am freezing constantly. Hand warmers, thermal tops, bottoms s & socks, hot water bottle, hat.......STILL the tips of my fingers are slightly numb with cold. Touch wood, I can still amble slowly for an hr os so daily but even low impact exercise does nothing to improve circulation.
I'm not too bad outside as so well wrapped up but hubby would be carting me off to hospital thinking I was having HE episode of I tramped about house in fleece gloves grandparents bat etc๐
Maybe heโd be right tho! Even in between HE episodes everyone tells me - Now!! - that I was odd. Funny - they still tell me that - 15 months post ๐.
They can't all be wrong๐
And clearly Iโve added you to the list as well Lynne ๐๐
๐๐
Yes Annie my husband is really cold all the time.
He wears thermal layers, has a heated blanket in bed and a heated throw for the sofa, and the heating is so high I am in a vest and shorts. If he gets cold through he finds it really really hard to warm through. Lots of hot baths help.
Sophie
Thanks sophie. Got baths de f the best thing , unfortunately just doesn't last long enough before I'm wrapped up again. Good to know it's quite common tho as sure consultant fed up hearing all my moans
Yes another good fiend of ours, now very well post transplant was frozen all the time pre transplant too. Good luck
Hi Sophie
Donโt let him take his iPhone/iPad in the bath though will you! Thatโs from experience - falling asleep in bath with my iPad was a costly lesson. ๐.

Did ya enjoy the snooze cruise. That Sinking feeling. Ops.๐
I did for a while - until I discovered Smirnoff - the effect was shattering.....
My turn to be obtuse...... ๐
Oh and at the risk of being annoying

Word up - If your blank page occurs in the middle of a document (and is not caused by an Odd/Even Page section break), there is a remote chance that it is caused by a plethora of empty paragraphs, but more often it is the result of a manual page break. ๐ค
Do you use HU app for iOS. I stumbled upon the post from 3yr back. Did it ever kick off. Annoyingly an Android minions app never materialized. Promises? ๐ค
I have the App but donโt use - the image is like 50% full screen ๐. Much easier using web version!
Cheers there's an app for that. Personally I don't use em but give them a try, thought I was missing summit. I began using HU through the e-mail. Now using browser however it's not giving me a direct link to log in & log in? Bedtime story, asleep app. Too many apps.
The end. ๐ค๐
Hi Annie
I cannot add to what others have written, but like you I suffer with feeling cold but normally at the same time I'm feeling lethargic which I truly dislike! I guess whatever's going on with me will be diagnosed soon or maybe not!!!! If not then I shall be screaming from the top of Blackpool Tower !!! Joking as I hate heights ๐. Couldnt even go in the Shard lift ......๐๐๐
Good point Shropshire! The chill always comes with inactivity for me. It helps to move around to get the blood flowing. But it's a circular problem, isn't it? We sit around when feeling unable to be active. It was explained to me that it's not real tiredness but a chemical change in the brain that causes de-motivation which then causes a slump to the sofa...... on and on....
Hi Filly
Lucky you,, no post card comment from Milo ๐๐๐
Like you say the best thing to do is listen to your body and lye on the sofa๐This I seem to be doing more of these days.....๐ At least we have the Christmas movies ....lol
Probably not luck, more he hasn't got round to it yet!
I'm guessing he's having a well deserved nap!,
Must fly as Im off to walk Martha's dogs๐
How the hell are you going to get in that plane?๐ฑ
She'll fly...
By a strong cable winch Laura! ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
The weather forecast is looking promising too ๐ฑ
You ought to get Alex to turn the heating up....
Aye!Aye ! Captain !
Hiya,
My husband has gone from being a little radiator which was lovely on a cold night to feeling cold all the time and I am now the one saying but it is boiling in here. He has taken to wearing his coat indoors.
Hi
I tend to feel hot all the time, sweat profusely , on oxybutynin to help but I am cold it takes me ages to warm up. Please take care of yourself Lynne
Hi
My husband has liver cirrhosis and all your symptoms,he feels the cold shocking so turns the heat up said he canโt wear a cardigan indoors ?? Too restrictive
Betsie, I'm the same, more comfortable to warm the surrounding air than to restrict or get itchy with extra clothes.
That's very true. My hubby always telling me to put on extra jumper but if the air is colder then not very beneficial really.
Hi Annie,
As you can see from the replies, many people with cirrhosis do feel the cold. Can you mention it to your consultant when you see them?
Best wishes
Trust1
Thanks trust1. I will do. Its not till February but I'm sure it can wait till then
Annie
Hi Have same symptoms insomnia & lack of energy fortunately not the cold problem Itโs a pain but at least still above ground
Best Wishes
Hi Annie...You are not alone!I am always cold,my consultant said it is to do with liver cirrohsis....I treated myself to an electric blanket (a good one)I can safely say that is the only time I am warm enough with no complaints....I wear layers of clothing instead of one thick one and tights under trousers keep your legs snuggly....lots of hot drinks.Keep smilin xx All of us with this cold feeling know exactly what you mean xx
Hi Annie,
Being cold all the time was a real issue for me too. Would be sat in the office in the middle of summer with a jumper on and a coat over my shoulders! So, yes, it is a real symptom that you can experience with cirrhosis. The liver is important in generating energy for the body, so I suspect that is one of the reasons that with cirrhosis you struggle getting warm.
Thanks Kristian. Glad it's not just me then x
