I am a 31 year old female and I have alcohol related liver cirrhosis. Do women lose their sex drive?

Discuss it with your specialist, however, this is entirely to do with your liver as some of its functions are to do with hormone regulation. Sadly loss of sex drive in both men and women with cirrhosis is common.

Thank you, I’m always a little embarrassed to ask but I’ve googled a lot. It does mention that it is common with cirrhosis but never how or what can be done about it.

My hubby sadly has complete loss of sex drive, function and interest. We've told doctors about it all along and they've never suggested anything at all - we live with(out) it. One female on here (who is post transplant) had the same issue as yourself and was prescribed testosterone.

Don't be embarrassed discussing anything with your medical team.

Good morning Abrielle,

I have included links to the British Liver Trust and NHS information regarding cirrhosis.

Loss of sex drive ( lack of libido) is a symptom associated with cirrhosis.

Do not hesitate to discuss this with your liver specialist or your GP. They should be sympathetic to your concerns, and can perhaps offer treatment.

Take care,

I am probably a horrible person but the way he is right now I am his carer not his wife well that’s how it feels anyway. Some days he is like a very old old man it doesn’t mean I don’t care but it is very hard to find that spark.

It shows that alcoholic cirrhosis affects both genders as regards sex drive. Whether you as a man or woman with cirrhosis or the partner of of them, we all lose interest. It affects all concerned.

I can't say I've lost my sex drive, more like making up for lost time now if im honest, as I was a reclusive drunk and a mess and that is not a good look, but now all is fantabadozey on that front thankfully and long may that continue 😉.
